Thanks, however the information about departure from Aotearoa New Zealand is incorrect. There are no restrictions on departures from ANZ.

Ok, that does not sound good. This website was just published to make things easier.. 😳
Please see: https://safetravel.govt.nz/covid-19-coronavirus#overlay-context=covid-19-coronavirus

for details of our government's advice.

The advice starts off saying "We currently advise that all New Zealanders do not travel overseas at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, associated health risks and widespread travel restrictions".

If you continue reading, the next paragraph says "If you choose to travel overseas despite our advice, our individual destination pages remain an essential of source of information on specific risks"

It is important to understand that the advice against travel is general advice for citizens and residents but is not a regulation or law. The advice is given to signal to people who are currently in ANZ that they are safest to stay put here in ANZ but if anyone does choose to travel then they should not expect consular assistance if they get into difficulties.

People currently in ANZ are free to travel at any time to anywhere they like without needing to ask for permission or checking with anyone beforehand.

People travel out of ANZ everyday for all sorts of reasons.

Of course, getting back into ANZ is a different matter. There are regulations and laws covering who can enter ANZ, where they can travel from and what they are required to do when they do eventually get back to ANZ. In this area the website seems to have the correct information.

Interestingly, the website suggests that people travelling from ANZ to Spain do not need to have a recent Covid test.

What does this mean: but if anyone does choose to travel then they should not expect consular assistance if they get into difficulties? Are you saying if you lost your passport they would not help because the website already warned you not to travel?

The actual wording of the advice is "Please note that in some cases the ability of the New Zealand Government to provide consular assistance may be limited due to local restrictions on movement and other services." And also that "The Government is committed to continuing to assist New Zealanders overseas where we can." So if someone loses their passport they would certainly help. They're just advising against travel in general. And of course there is still a mandatory 2-week quarantine period on return, in managed hotel facilities at a cost of $NZ3000, which is something of a disincentive!

What happens to your travel/health insurance if you travel against advice - even though there is no legislation? Can you get insurance?

It means that, in particular, if you choose to travel overseas and you then get stuck in a country where Covid breaks out or is out of control then no one is going to send a chartered plane over to rescue you. Having found your own way into such a situation, you are solely responsible for getting yourself out of that situation.

The travelsafespain.info doesn't ignore vaccinated travellers. For the time being, it doesn't matter whether you are vaccinated or not when you want to enter Spain. This may change soon.

There are only about 55 countries in the travelsafespain system that you can pick as the country from where you want to travel to Spain. A lot of countries are missing.

I was surprised to see that they forgot to mention that a PCR test is required when you travel from France to Spain on land. They only mention the older rule about arriving in Spanish ports or airports.

Travelsafespain.info is a handy and useful tool but as they rightly point out: Before travelling, you must always consult the requirements and recommendations of the official government websites.

Goes without saying....

I take things literally so when I read they should not expect consular assistance if they get into difficulties, I take it as no assistance if one gets in any difficulty. I will add COVID to the sentence....

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

The form works for Australia. It tells us that there is a ban on international country (with a few exemptions). But that for entry into Spain, Australia is one of the countries exempt from travel restrictions. And that we won't be allowed back home. In slightly more words.

So far everybody has been willing to have us (even though we can't go) because we've been virus free but from now on I think it will be different. Logically it makes more sense to welcome people who won't get the disease and won't pass it on (ie vaccinated), than to allow in people with no immunity. Like us.

I have fished out my old yellow WHO vaccination card and will get my Covid vaccinations entered therein.

While the following is not specific to Spain, I mention it simply because of the app on this woman's airline's website, and wondered if anyone else had come across what sounds to me like what would be helpful information if combined with the state department/country's travel statements.
I was reading an article written by a woman who the other day was headed to Ghana from San Francisco. She dutifully got her yellow fever shot and her visa and went to a clinic in the Castro to get a COVID test within the 72 hours. She did not read the email United Airlines sent her.
When she arrived at the SFO gate, she started finding out things that were unacceptable--such as the COVID test was a rapid test, not the required PCR; the test results were handwritten on a printed form--"test results must be completely computer-generated and either printed out and/or available online;" she had not written out a health declaration, etc. (She did not sound like a prepared, experienced traveler.)
She wrote she later found out 'United uploads the travel requirements of each destination you have a plane ticket for in their app’s “travel center.”' I have not seen this page but it seems to me that it would be helpful to have such a reference to use along with each country's stated requirements since our first hurdle is simply boarding the plane.
Has anyone seen an app like this on their airline's website for any of the tickets to Spain they have purchased? Does the app seem updated, adequate and helpful?

I recently found out that members of United's frequent flyer program can upload their vaccine cards to be entered in a lottery to win free flights for a year!

Glad it is there. Seems odd the other airlines have not caught up but I will give it time. Thanks.
