Hello, Portugal being on the Amber list. Is travelling still possible to Portugal from the UK?
Foreign travel advice states not to but else where states
There are no restrictions on travelling to Portugal from the EU/EEA or from the UK or USA. Screening on arrival.

I realise, I have to take a test before I fly and another one to re enter the UK. Can anyone confirm.

It is all very confusing. I think this is the most accurate information for you, seen from the point of view of Portugal and copied from VisitPortugal.com which is run by the National Tourism Board of Portugal and reasonably official:

Flights to and from Portugal are allowed for:
Non-essential travels from the countries of the European Union, from Schengen Associated countries (Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland) and from the UK (see specific information for UK travellers at https://www.visitportugal.com/en/content/uk-travellers-travelling-and-testing-procedures.)
Passengers must present proof of a negative test to COVID-19.

You can travel to Portugal with a test (introduced last week, before nothing was needed). When you return, there is a 10-day quarantine and tests on day 2 and 8. I don't believe BoJo will put Portugal on the green list before lifting the restrictions in the UK :/

Thank you, Yes mixed confusing signals when reading.
I can start my planning now.
Thanks

There is no problem about flying to Portugal from the U.K. I’m currently in Viseu, enjoying the Interior route which is spectacular. Arriving in Porto was a breeze.

At the moment accommodation is plentiful, the restaurants are uncrowded, and the people are as wonderfully welcoming as ever.
Isolation when I get back will be just 5 days for the price of an extra £80 test. Well worth it for the joy of feeling the Way under my feet once more.

As stated no issues flying to Portugal from UK, just testing and quarantine!! Land borders with Spain open with no checks/ testing.

Constant change ... I think that the forum completely missed this change until now.

Portugal had allowed the Man City & Chelsea fans to travel to Porto for the Champions League final without any restrictions whatsoever ... that was only three weeks ago. Good to see that they have revised that decision.

Chelsea and Manchester City fans needed tests to board in London and Porto. I don’t thing anything really changed green to amber with regard to needing testing to board flights, but quarantine and associated testing did change!

Ah ok, I've done a strike-through in my earlier comment. So then ... sometime during the last three weeks, Portugal had no test requirements for UK travellers and then introduced them again a week ago???

I didn’t think Portugal has changed anything in last 3 weeks. It’s just the quarantine in UK that had changed. You always needed a pre flight PCR in UK and Portugal.

Thanks again. I've done another strike-through in my earlier comment.

But things may change (again) 14:15 BST 23/06/2021:

Merkel: all EU states should quarantine UK arrivals

German chancellor Angela Merkel has said she would like other European states to follow Germany and require people entering from countries with high levels of the Delta variant, like Britain, to go into quarantine.

“In our country, if you come from Great Britain, you have to go into quarantine - and that’s not the case in every European country, and that’s what I would like to see,” Merkel told the Bundestag lower house of parliament.

Yesterday, Merkel said she hoping for better coordination on pandemic travel rules among the bloc’s 27 member states. She said it was problematic to have a patchwork of regulations. Seemingly, she would like other EU states to follow her lead.

“I regret that we haven’t managed yet to have completely uniform action among the member states on travel guidelines – that is coming back to haunt us,” she told reporters after a meeting with European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen, according to AFP.

Merkel criticised Portugal, which has allowed the entry of British tourists despite the prevalence of the Delta variant in the UK.

Von der Leyen acknowledged she was “worried” about the spread of the Delta variant, saying it was “only a matter of time” before it became dominant in Europe.

Seemingly indeed ☺️. She couched her actual words more carefully and more cautiously than the summary suggests, both in yesterday's interview and in today's Question Time in parliament. Her very last Question Time, btw.
Wiedersehen, Mutti! :(

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I am so curious about June stats from Pilgrim's office, to find out how many Americans and British took advantage of this window of opportunity which opened on June the 7th, permitting pilgrims from around the world to walk the Camino in Spain. Because IT IS a window of opportunity and it's not hard to see how Delta🦠 is closing this window in front of our eyes.

Myself, once I got my second Pfizer shot and my Green Certificate for travel, first thing I did was to buy a flight ticket to get near SJPdP to walk from there to Santiago. Not for October, not for September, but for now, for the first available flight in July. For me, there was no time to waste. I know that during pandemic I'm not the one calling the shots. It's the virus.

It is a bit hard to understand for me what you, lads from the UK, and guys from the US, are still waiting for. Carpe diem! 👻. Come and join me on the Camino👣 Yesterday is history, tomorrow is misery  (saying adjusted for pandemic)

Buen Camino to all!🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️🏇

UK Coronavirus rates are currently the highest they have been since February and continue to rise

and you want people from the UK to come to Spain? Therein lies madness.

Or just wanting to enliven the discussion ... ?

At the moment of writing, close to 10.000 pilgrims obtained a Compostela in June, with one week to go until the end of this month; pilgrims who currently walk and report online all say that it is mostly Spanish pilgrims, followed by pilgrims from EU countries and very few from the USA and UK. Shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

And addition to all the obvious reasons ... maybe those who have walked caminos repeatedly have realised that not only can they survive one year without travelling to Spain, they can even survive two years without travelling to Spain. Or Portugal for that matter ...

Hello is that confirmed PCR Test to enter Portugal, but not to enter Spain is that correct? Also flights aren't asking for test to board.

My friend travelled from. London to Lisbon last Thursday. She needed a PCR to fly LON-LIS, a PCR to fly LIS-LON, she had to pre purchase the 2 and 8 day UK test and has the options to buy the 5 day early release test in UK. She also has to quarantine for 10 days assuming not taking early release test.

She is serious about it. She said today twice in public and quite officially that she will actively support a better coordinated approach by all 27 EU countries as far as travel from virus variant areas is concerned. They all are meeting in person today and tomorrow. Belgium has apparently already introduced quarantine rules (7 days mandatory) for travel from the UK, and a popular UK newspaper titles something about Macron also saying "non" now. I don't know what's going on and where this will lead to but most of the content of this thread may be moot by tomorrow morning or on Monday.

About time, too. The current patchwork of rules, ranging from laissez-faire to very strict for the same sending non-EU country, is getting ridiculous.

It is a bit hard to understand for me what you, lads from the UK, and guys from the US, are still waiting for.
I'm waiting for a combination of circumstances to come together, so that a trip to Spain rises to the top of the feasibility and priority list. Isn't this how we make most of our travel decisions - Covid or not?
