Madrid to Badajoz, how?

I'm flying into Madrid early in the morning (it's like a million years from now, spring 2022, but I love to dream about it) and wondering the best way to get to Merida or Badajoz that day. For some reason, there are no flights that day.. one the next day but I don't want to stay in Madrid. People have posted a website here before that tells all the rail and bus times and destinations and I can't remember what it is. Remind me.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

The train option looks pretty good. I’ve attached a screen shot for trains for a random upcoming day, but the schedules are likely to be similar.

The Spaniards have built tracks to Badajoz for the proposed high speed Lisbon-Madrid train. But my understanding is that the Portuguese have backed out of the agreement, so the traacks end in Badajoz.

If you arrive in T4 (on Iberia or a One World partner) the Cercanías will take you there very quickly. There are now two Cercanías lines out to Barajas, and they both stop at Atocha, so now instead of one train every half hour, there is one every 15 minutes because of how they stagger the schedule. That makes it so much more convenient.

And the same train also stops in Mérida. Since I think I remember that you are going to walk the Vdlp, that’s likely to be a better place for you to get off!

Apropos of nothing, Badajoz is on my list of places I’d like to visit if I’m ever nearby. I’ve never researched it, never looked on google or maps, but the Siege of Badajoz during the Napoleonic wars was a significant moment in history and features in a number of Regency era novels.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

You should check out Elvas across the border in Portugal at the same time. It is still a walled star-fort town, which I don't think Badajoz is. You can easily bus between the two.

Interesting to see that Alsa does not run the line Madrid to Badajoz but Flixbus. Guess the international players ( buscompanies ) found Spain too. Wonder if this bus continues to Portugal.
This may have changed, but when we travelled this route (4 years ago), it was train Madrid>Merida, bus Merida>Badajoz, and then a separate, different-line bus just the short run Badajoz>Elvas (across the invisible border).
