Necessary to book albergues between Leon and Ponferrada?

Hi,

I have 4 days on the Frances, before starting Camino Invierno, and since I don’t know how busy it is now, I’m asking if you think booking is necessary or not?

Recommendations on where (albergues) to stay (stops probably San Martin del Camino, Astorga, Foncebadon and Ponferrada) would be highly appreciated too

I see by your earlier posts that you plan to start the Invierno on July 9. A good source for what is open now is the Gronze Camino Frances Guide which you can read on line. It is available in English and Spanish.

Having walked a lot of caminos, I’m familiar with gronze.com (also have the Wise Pilgrim app), so the question was mostly about if you need to book in advance or not right now, depending on the number of pilgrims

Also I thought someone maybe had specific, updated recommendations for albergues between Leon and Ponferrada, since I never walked that stretch myself before

I regret that I could not help you more.
Indeed I have walked that section 10 times and have favorite places to stay but my info for 2004 to 2014 is out of date for what you need now.

Well, thank you so much for trying your best to be helpfull - that’s just as highly appreciated - and I’m sure others may have more updated info

Hello Thomas, I can share with you that 1. the Albergue Domus Dei Parroquial in Foncebaden, 2. the Albergue Parroquial "Apóstol Santiago" in El Acebo, and 3. the Albergue de Peregrinos San Nicolas de Flue in Ponferrada are open and there have not been full beds as yet. These are all donativo and very nice however I cherish Acebo the most.

You can contact email alberguesparroquiales@gmail.com to see if there is availability but most likely you will be okay. The Parroquial at Acebo is 11 KM's past Foncebaden and Ponferrada is another 15 Km's past Acebo so I suspect you may wish to stay at one or the other.

Good luck and I believe that I can say that most all of us wish that we were there on the Camino right now if we could be.....

Not sure when you will arrive? I have been on this route in Late September when there were no rooms available from Astorga to Ponferrada according to other pilgrims who were trying to find places to stay in Rabanal del Camino.

Foncebadon Albergue Covent de Foncebadon Is a private albergue with dorm and private rooms. (not run bynuns) clean, decent food and kind staff.

El Acebo - WOW! Albergue La Casa delPeregrino. terrific place to stop! Has a swimming pool.. Surrounded by mountains,gorgeous patio. Offers-both dorm and private rooms. Breakfast and dinner available! Right before the end of town! reserve!

I am a fan of parroquial albergues, and there are some special ones along this route. But in Ponferrada I would recommend Albergue Guiana, currently bookable on booking.com and just across the bridges from the beginning of the Invierno. It is a decent place to stay, has restaurants close-by for dinner, provides breakfast, and you can find the first mojon that marks the Invierno close-by for your morning start.

Agree, great Albergue! Also private rooms …But not sure whether they will have breakfast available? Do consider, I have reservations for private room in September!
