Maybe just a homeowner who has a particular affinity for the Camino....but does anyone know anything about La Garita? Thought it was an albergue or bar or tiny museum...lots of near artifacts. But no one home Saw this on way to Gijon from Vilaviciosa after that first huge climb. Any info appreciated

A selection of Camino Jewellery
There are so many first big climbs:). I do remember leaving GIjon before sunrise. Don't remember why I left so early but I it may have been the day a big storm was coming in the afternoon and wanted to be done early. I do remember that I stayed in the pilgrim hostel in Aviles and it was ok but the hospitalario was not very hospitable.

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
The town of Salinas is about 6km past (west of) Aviles. 600 meters past Salinas (and up to the top of the hill) is the albergue San Martin de Laspra. Here you will find one of the most hospitable hospitalaros on the del Norte. Buen Camino.
Yes I was at SML albergue🤣. This is WAY before Gijon and even farther from Salinas., just asking about the landmark history. I don't think it's an albergue.

La Garita is apparently a hamlet that belongs to the municipality of Villaviciosa and the parish of Cazanes. The hamlet has a permanent population of 0 inhabitants. (https://www.pueblosdeasturias.es/villaviciosa/cazanes/garita-la)

The artefacts on your photos look like an enthusiastic tribute to the Jacobean Holy Year 2021-2022.

Don Pelayo and S. Francisco de Asis can be associated with the pilgrimage to Saint James in Compostela, I am not sure about Jovellanos, and then there is you, a pilgrim of 2021-2022.

Lisa, perhaps there are two Iglesias San Martin de Laspra. The albergue I stayed in October 2019 is at 43 34' 12.80 N, 5 58' 13.90 W. See page 134 in the Wise Pilgrim guide or call 659 803 290. I THINK the delightful hospitalero was Jesus Lopez but I am not sure. C898ECA7-E21E-4C10-A5EF-201E8B23320A (1).JPG
