In 2020 April I had a reservation on a TAP flight which was cancelled due to pandemic, and TAP was nice enough to issue a voucher for the cancelled flight. Yesterday I was trying to book a flight to find the vouch was invalid probably because it is over 12 months from the time the voucher was issued.

In light of so many months of pandemic related cancelled flights I thought airlines would make some kind of adjustments to their voucher policy, but I was wrong.

Do you think TAP is fair in this case? It wasn't until recent when Portugal is open to foreigners.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-

My guess is that TAP is within its rights. You might have been in a better position before the voucher expired to find something to use it for or negotiate an extension. I don't know what's fair but you have my sympathy.

If you are looking for more than sympathy - For example if you want to ask some knowledgeable people if they know of any way to change TAP's decision because Portugal was closed until recently, you could try posting a question on Flyertalk (the frequent flier forum):

Be warned that discussions on Flyertalk can get quite argumentative.

I see that there are some lengthy discussions already about vouchers and so on. You might want to take a look at them to see if they answer your question, before making a new post:

I too am sympathetic to-your situation. Of course, passangers have horror stories with different airlines, but I, for one, would never, take TAP, after an experience with them over 40 years ago. Their ratings areamong the worst.

Beware! .IMO in a time where flights may need to be changed because of pandemic situations, and you may need good customer service to make such changes, you do not want to be dealing with TAP. That initial attractive fare, maycostyou alot more than the extra amount you may pay on a more reputable airline.

TAP's customer service is dreadful. They do not respond to any complaints or requests for assistance. To my detriment, and many others, we have learned the hard way - don't fly TAP!

I also had a poor experience with TAP customer service after I cancelled our 9/2020 trip and asked for a refund vs. voucher. They agreed to the refund but it never happened - multiple calls to them with no result other than they couldn’t say when I’d get my money (after promising a specific date, Nov. 30 I think) Finally got my credit card company to handle it, they gave me an immediate refund.

I am waiting much too patiently for a refund agreed to by TAP a few months back. Appreciate hearing how others have approached the same situation.

If you paid by credit card, don’t wait another day. Ask your credit card company to take on that fight! Instant stress reduction.

I recently book a flight for early 2022 with a voucher from a flight I cancelled in 2020. TAP had renewed the voucher after it ran out earlier this year and gave me the option to book a flight before April 2022 and told me once I booked the flight I was welcome to make changes in my itinerary for travel later than the expiration of the voucher once the booking was made. I noticed someone had posted their voucher was ROR….that is incorrect, all of the voucher begin with a V….

Thanks MartaM…I tried that a few months ago and my credit card company said “sorry”…for a story that I did not have the right type of credit card protection. Hmmm maybe need to be a little more forceful in my approach!

I the summer of 2019, TAP offered a direct flight from Chicago to Barcelona, the destination I needed for a cruise. I had no problems with them and did not look at their reviews prior to booking; maybe I was just lucky.

I had a reservation for May 2020. In April, I received an offer of a voucher with a value of 20% above what I had paid, with a validity of two years. I accepted it and hope to be able to use it in 2022.

I just received this e-mail from the CEO. She invites anyone to write to her regarding any problem or issue. Give it a try.

I do hope everyone who has had a problem with them does contact the CEO! And when you get a response from them, do post the results!

Totally unfair! After Delta cancelled my flight(s) over and over again I finally called and cancelled. They had the nerve to ask why! Anyway, I got a voucher and a year later I got the total cost refunded. That's the way to do business if you're thinking long term.

Thank you for posting this. I have send to an email to the TAP CEO and would like nothing better to report a successful outcome. It’s time to hear some positives and move forward…

You may be able to raise a complaint through Resolver. This company is recommended by Money Saving Expert and free to use. Not sure how things differ now we're not in Europe any more (assuming you live in the UK)? I've used Resolver successfully a few times. Once, my husband and I received 800 euros for a cancelled Norwegian Airways flight. They've also just helped me to resolve a situation with my previous electricity supplier. Good luck!

A COVID test is needed in Lisbon, even if only in transit. It has to be done within a 72 hour window. My flight departure time is 1815 on a Wednesday. The latest appt for Sunday is 1645. That would put me OVER the 72 hours by only 90. I can easily schedule an appt for Monday, but I was concerned about the results coming back on time. They SAY 24-48 hours, but do not guarantee it. SOOOOO…….I wrote to MADAME CEO and asked if the 90 minute over the limit issue would result in a boarding denial.

That was three weeks ago and, to date, NOT A WORD. I have resent the email every day for the last three weeks but NO ANSWER WHATSOEVER.

It has become rather clear that no answer with be forthcoming either.

A TOTAL FRAUDE as far I can see.
