Hi,
I'd like to have some news about the actual Covid and virus-related restrictions in Portugal and Spain. I'm planning to fly to OPorto on the 7th or 8th of august with a friend and walk up to Santiago then take a bus to go to Finisterre and take another bus to go to Madrid from Santiago. Is it doable in this situation? Do we have to complete the health control form to enter Spain and the passenger locator card to enter Portugal? Do we need to book a place in the albergues in advance and take covid tests very often? Is there anyone currently walking this camino?
Thanks in advance for your help

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I cancelled my 8/25 departure due to uncertainty. I am fully vaccinated, but dread the masks and questions and requests for my papers! The Camino will be there. I am sorry for the people who make their living from camion pilgrims. I promise to be generous when I finally hoist the pack and walk mask free.

Hola! I’m on the Camino Portugués now (just arrived in Tui from Rubiães) & I can answer this question. Landing in Porto (on Lufthansa from Los Angeles via Frankfurt) we were required to show lab results of a negative COVID test before entering customs. At hotel check-in, since then , I’ve only been asked for a negative Covid test in Porto. In the other villages, I’m sometimes asked for proof of vaccine (both shots). That’s it!
Definitely come!
The Camino is EMPTY!!!
I was on the Coastal route which was desolate (albeit beautiful) & crossed over to the Central route (from Villa do Condo to Rates then on to Barcelos). The majority of pilgrims that we come across are Spanish & Portuguese.
Municipal albergues are closed.
All of our lodging is through Booking.com.
Buen camino!!!!

Good and informative post from a new member. Thanks and Buen Camino. Are you going to do the Spiritual Variant just out of Pontevedra? If you aren't you should check it out. It is wonderful. I made the mistake of not doing it. I will do the Portugues again from Faro and will not miss it next time.

Is there a way to be generous now? Can we donate money to albuerges or other businesses on the Camino? Is that a thing?

We were supposed to do the Coastal route from Porto. I even booked a room in Porto. We were planning to stay in Porto for 3 nights. I followed the advice of many people and cancelled our reservation. This was going to be our 2nd Camino. Our 1st Camino was in 2017 we hiked from Pamplona to SDC. We will go back. I am certain.

I arrived to Spain 21 June. Just to get on to the plane in the US, we had to show our spain QR code as well as show it going thru the Frankfurt airport. We're Here in Porto, as we're waiting for out outbound plane. In Santiago, a pension (hotel) asked for our Vaccination card and made a copy of it. In fisterra, a restaurant asked to see the cards so that we could eat inside, since outside was full. Lastly the hotel here in Porto asked to see the cards. I think this was the only three times we had to provide proof of Vaccination while here. I was worried that we might have to have A pcr test just to come to Porto but it wasn't an issue.

We had a hard time trying to make reservations at Albergues. A few we were able to do thru bookings.com, some we were able to call to make reservations and some said they didn't do reservation - first come basis. We did the Norte, the Fisterra and Muxia.
It seems like we had to provide contact info incase they needed to contact us but nothing to worry about, my phone doesn't work here for calls.

Do you know if the US cdc vaccination card is accepted at auberges/hotels/restaurants? I see you are from Canada but wondered if you spoke to any Americans. Planning to go mid September - trying to decide
