I hope to start the Camino de la Plata (for the 7th time) on 14 September from Seville. I have made some bookings in small hotels along the way. Can anyone who has walked the route this year tell me if the Albergues along the way are open and if it is necessary to book in advance (if they are taking bookings). I’m especially interested in the Albergues in Alquescar, Fuenteroble, Riego del Camino, Santa Martha de Tera, Mombey, A Gudina, Xunqueira de Ambia and Castro Dozon.

Hello Michael from Dublin! Did you used to work for Aer Lingus and now work at a Dublin art gallery?
I think my husband and I (Australians) may have met you on the Via de La Plata in October 2019 on a dreadfully hot day on the way to Monasterio. (You asked people to stop you if you ever wanted to do the Via de La Plata again!) We stayed in that beautiful albergue in Fuenteroble and had a lovely dinner and acorn liqueur. If it’s you, I hope you’re well and am thrilled that you’re off on another Camino. We are locked down in Melbourne and missing Spain and the Caminos terribly. Buen Camino and stay safe.

I really hope you post updates as you walk. I will be quite interested as I start walking from Sevilla exactly one month after you start. Would love if you could mention the names of the albergues you are staying at so we can have a better idea of exactly which places are open. Would like to also know about numbers of pilgrims and any problems with availability of a bed. thanks.

Rowena. Thanks for that. Yes it’s me. I may have said “take me out and shoot me” so obviously nobody has and yes I am hoping to go again. A lot more planning this as it’s hard to know if Albergues are open and there are reports of towns along the way being closed off. That is a worry. I’ll make a start and see how far I’ll get. Great to hear from you and hope you are both well.

Someone ha recommended Gronze which I haven’t used before but on a quick glance it seems to give email addresses that I haven’t found before. It56ny thanks for your reply. A lot of planning this year as it’s difficult to know what is open. Someone ha recommended Gronze which I haven’t used before but on a quick glance it seems to give email addresses that I haven’t found before. At this stage my plan is to start and see how far I’ll get. I will post details here. Michael

May I also recommend a host of other apps that will give you an idea of a wide range of accommodations
Gronze does update openings and closings. I also have heard the Camino Ninja app updates. There is also Wise Pilgrim, Buen Camino and the Gerald Kelley app. All are free to download. Kelley has an app that is free and one that costs a few dollars. No one app or guide has every place to lay your head.

Thanks for the reminder of Gronze. I used it to set up the last part of my Levante walk, from Zamora to Santiago. But that was some time ago, and I wasn't thinking to refer back when I am actually walking it. That will be in late October to mid November, and many things will no doubt have changed.

We are getting ahead of ourselves. I planned the VdlP section of my walk on gronze. Having walked the VdlP previously, I am familiar with it, especially the last section into Santiago, which is the same as my recent Invierrno. But I am leaving for the Levante a month from tomorrow. I have never posted a thread describing my camino walk, but I may do so for the Levante, to help out anyone coming after me, especially those coming later this year, when pandemic closures and restrictions still apply. It is not available on gronze.com.
