Bike storage - SJPP

Hi all,

My boyfriend and I are going to cycle the Camino from Saint Jean Pied de Port on September 3rd.

The problem we have is that the agency from which we're renting the bikes has to deliver them to Saint Jean Pied de Port the day before our Camino trip starts (on September 2nd). Since we're not going to be in Saint Jean Pied de Port on that day and are not planning to sleep in SJPP we have to find some place that will receive our bikes on September 2nd and keep them until we pick them up on September 3rd
.
Do any of you perhaps know such a place?

Thank you!
Mirta

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I'd be inclined to think that that was the agents problem. Not yours. Ask them where they intend to deliver and store your hired bikes until you can collect them.

I would review your contract for the bikes and look very hard at the days you are renting the bikes for.
As most of the companies change by the day it is a poor choice to pay for an unused day before you start. Change you contract for the days you need the bike not for days before you arrive in France. This the the agency problem not yours and they need to hold the bike at a secure location until you the customer pick them up as stated(location and date) in the contract.
If the problem is that you changed your plans after signing the contract to arrive a day later, I would contact the company to change the pick up day.

Thank you both for the reply.

The agency is from Portugal and I guess that's why there is a logistical problem.
I tried looking up some other bike agences and found one that seemed promising but they also have a "pick up day before" policy.

Do you know of any good bike agency I can contact?

Thanks.

Even though you aren’t staying perhaps one of the albergues would accept them for a nominal fee

But wouldn't it be a poor choice on the part of the agency, to bear the cost of an extra day?

I see this as more of a pickup logistical problem than one of cost. They need to deliver it somewhere that @mirta can pick it up, without either party having to wait around for the other. Also, various unpredictables could mean that either you or the bicycle could encounter delays. That's why some buffer time is appropriate. Maybe your schedule is just too tight.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

The agency don't rent out the bikes 100% of the time, so I wouldn't think it would make any change for the company.

There was before COVID a shop in SJDP that many companies used for holding bikes and setting them up after shipping. Based on the original post I am guessing that the shop is closed. Sorry I don't know the name shop but was told about the set up by two bike pilgrims that had rented bikes from two companies but picked up the bike together at the same shop.

A second thought on your problem as you have contacted a few more agencies/companies with no one wanting to give you bikes on Friday 2 Sept.

The shop that they send the bikes to in SJdP may be going to be closed on Friday 3 Sept, or the shop is already at max number of storable bikes in the shop for that Friday. At this point you need to talk to the companies and ask what is happening. It could be a holiday in France or SJdP. Any of many problems could be happening.

Solution one is for you call more companies about bikes, telling them your needed date and find one that can do that date. Solution two Walk for one day or until Monday and pick up your bike in Spain from the post office or a shop this would have to talked about with the company you rent from but picking up the bike in Spain maybe a lot easier. Third solution bring your own bikes. Solution four wait in SJdP until you can get the bikes to start.

I contacted the Pilgrim's office, but unfortunately they do not provide such services.
I think we will eventually have to take a room/bed in one of the hostels (thank God they are not expensive) although we will not sleep there.
That seems like a best option to us.

I have walked several caminos since 2013 and am hoping to experience the Primitivo in September. Recently I have developed a nasty intermittent pain in the ball of my feet, especially the left...
