Flying into Lisbon Aug 31 on Air Canada from Ontario. Is the Rapid Antigen Test acceptable or must you get the PCR? Big difference in costs. Thanks

According to this site, you need a PCR test.

So if I am reading the Portuguese measures correctly either a PCR test 72 hours prior to landing or a rapid antigen test 48 hours. Can anyone from Ontario Canada confirm this please?

It looks like you are right, and I didn't reas far enough. I think that this is a question for a crack researcher
like @Kathar1na .

I can’t confirm that with any certainty, but if you look at the TAP Airline website and the Lisbon Airport website, they say the same thing.

We're travelling on the 29th from Vancouver, and looking up the same things. I found this extensive discussion about Portuguese rules...set country to "Portugal"...

In the details on testing, it confirms that you could go with the 72-hour PCR or the 48-hour rapid antigen, BUT...further down, it says:

"Passengers not holding a PCR test certificate will be subject to a test on arrival, and must quarantine until a result is received."

(You have to click the "Read More" after the brief note-boxes to get all these details.)

This suggests the rapid antigen might not be as totally acceptable...

Has anyone else run into this?

We are flying out from Toronto to Lisbon on Sept. 1. We are getting the PCR test going to Portugal and again coming back to Canada.

I am not a lab person, but as an epidemiologist, I deal with diagnostic tests frequently. PCR is normally very sensitive, but also very specific (less chance of a false positive); the rapid antigen test, depending on the lab, can be very sensitive...in fact, so sensitive that it is not very specific = greater risk of getting a false positive. All this to say that I agree with the strategy to pay the big bucks for peace of mind. Worth it.

Check with your airline and also the health website of the country to which you’re flying. Good luck!

We are flying to Paris on September 23, from Toronto, and flying home from Porto on November 8. We are going to get PCR tests both ways to avoid any difficulties. Costly but worth it for the peace of mind.
You will still have to have a copy of your return ticket, an official card or transcripts of proof of vaccination as well, and my airline site said to have the official sworn statement too. I went to the French govt health site and it said to scan and email a copy of passport, return ticket, proof of vaccination and the form they have for you to fill out and they will email you a QR code. I know we don’t have the QR code yet but my airline said yesterday that the govt in France is very aware of the backlog of requests that is coming in for a Passe Sanitaire snd that if you don’t get yours by the time you land there you will have to go to a French pharmacy and get s Covid test there and you will get a temporary three day QR code that will get you into places until your code is emailed to you. Sorry if this sounds complicated. It was! Hope this helps.

Yes. The requirements for entering or transiting in Portugal (as I interpret them) are not dependent on your vaccination status. A test is required. Please see my post above (#13) for links to websites that detail the requirements.

So even though I will have a EU COVID health pass through France, I will need to have the pcr test if I’m flying to different countries?

Depending on the country, yes. You will need to read up on the entry requirements for each country.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Canada requires the PCR test which you should pre-book an appointment…there’s only a few places in Santiago that will do this test (I found/booked this one: quironsalud.es). Some people have been fined up to $6000 for only having the antigen test on arrival back to Canada…Canada requires the PCR test

A bit alarmist, but it suggests the Canadian government is being "stickier" about this than many.

As an aside, on the "leaving-Canada" front, we are flying to Lisbon tomorrow, and fulfilled the Portuguese requirement for a within-72-hours of departure test rule.

We were quite worried, as the Vancouver contractor who did the tests only guaranteed 48-hour results, and the only appointment we could get was about 40 hours prior to departure.

Our test results came through within 13 hours. Emailed to us. Cost about $200 Cdn each, through a third-party who used Shopper's Drug Mart for testing. They seem to be licensed to do it in Ontario and BC. A lot of other providers seem available; more or less same price. This just happened to be most convenient for us.

Bom caminho e boa viagem, everyone!

We are flying out to Lisbon Sept 1 and have our PCR test results ready, had the results within 24hrs. We have already scheduled our return PCR test through Madrid airport on Oct 5 cost 50 euros each, the test scheduling process was very easy.

I flew from Canada a few weeks ago, both Spain and Germany did not require a fully vaccinated Canadian to have a test before entry. I do believe Portugal does. Coming back to Canada you must have a PCR, not an antigen test. I scheduled a couple of days at a Madrid airport hotel in order to sort this out. I got it at the airport, results guaranteed within 12 hours.
