Please excuse my impatience, but...
How discouraged should we be by this development?
An appropriate level of discouragement will depend on your circumstances.

How does the picture look for Spain overall and for the Camino in particular?
There are hundreds of threads on this forum and thousands of new articles elsewhere to provide such information and opinions. We don't need another.

Also, some conflicting news about Americans' entry into EU. Any latest update on it, anyone?
See this thread. Notice also that it has been closed.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

There have been several threads on this topic today. I’ve been busy closing them. The rules on international travel under Covid change constantly as governments react.
Personally I have no intention of enduring the stresses of international travel or inflicting my presence on anywhere that doesn’t need me just now. I’m no more discouraged by today’s headlines as I was by yesterday’s or will be by tomorrow’s. My decision is based solely on the presence of a global pandemic. I have responsibilities that I will not neglect

End of November, the Ditch Pigs may call your name... There is a BIG mess outside of Burgos.

I think Tinca should close these threads immediately with the headline response to each. Check source material fo find out what each government's response is. It isn't too hard to find that information. Instead of adding to the endless speculation if you plan on going take responsibility for your camino and see my statement above.
If you are not going anytime soon I do not even know why you are asking the question. If you have fear about going then don't go. If you have a reservation that can be refunded or changed to a later date make your own decision when the time comes. If you are walking then keep walking until they send you home. We have information about today. Just like not knowing when you may get a blister NO ONE KNOWS PANDEMIC CONDITIONS TOMORROW.

Hi Gadfly I understand you coming to the forum to express yourself and ask for others' input - and hope you won't be discouraged by the tone of some of the responses.

Though I am a very infrequent 'poster' on the forum, I do look forward to reading some of the threads that arrive overnight in my 'inbox' but reading some of the responses to your post was really jarring. No doubt it's true there have been numerous questions and threads and comments on the topics you raise, and the moderators and others who are more across everything may well feel impatient. They - and others - give their time and expertise to this community and I'm sure it is much appreciated.

But not everyone lives and breathes this forum and is aware of all that's gone before. I'm certainly not - and maybe Gadfly isn't either. Some of the responses to this and previous posts along the same lines - and the 'pile on' when the point has already been made - are just plain unkind, at least that's how they read to me. The same points could me made more courteously and succinctly. As one of the commenters suggested, close the thread immediately with a headline response'. Hopefully a courteous one. What's that quote - 'Whenever possible, be kind. It's always possible.'

Your reply reminded me why I came to this forum in the first place. Like everyone it’s been challenging navigating through all the information and goal posts moving away from us daily. It’s made me impatient and not tolerant to those who ask «is it safe to travel? Time to start practicing more the quote you mentionned because when I read the OP’s post I clenched my teeth and groaned.

Honestly Gadfly, this may not be the best place for accurate, up to date information on this topic. We are all as much in the dark as you are and the situation can and does change suddenly. Check with official sources e.g. Spain's ministry of external affairs and the equivalent in your own country plus check some reliable, mainstream media. Then you have to make your own decision, a privilege we in my country are denied as our borders are closed. If I had a choice, my gut feeling would be to leave it another year at least, but as I say, it is your decision to make.

Nicely said, Dick Bird - and hi from one lockdown pilgrim to another. We are up here in Pretty Beach. Hope you're faring well in Sydney. We are not exactly planning our next Camino - but I am feeling optimistic about early Spring 2022. Take care.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Thank you for expressing my thoughts. I'd hate to see this Forum, which has helped me immensely in all things Camino for the last four years, become an exclusive club that runs off the very people that Ivar created it to help.

The forum is a wonderful resource and what an inspired initiative by Ivar all those years ago. Who’d have imagined how large the Camino community would become? I am among the many many - past present and future - pilgrims who are grateful to Ivar and all who give so generously of their time and knowledge 🙏

I understand why lots folks are asking about what is going to happen regarding admittance to Spain. My suggestion is to leave at least one of these threads open, so members can express their concerns and anxieties. For those not planning a trip in the next few weeks it may seem tedious to see-similar posts, but those that are posting similar threads are doing so for a reason. So perhaps consider giving them space here.

Agree. Some of the replies in this thread remind me of the two old guys in the balcony heckling people on The Muppet Show.
