Baggage Transfer

Time of past OR future Camino
2023 Sept- Oct Camino Frances
I am using Correos. Just a word of wisdom, I have a smart tag with gps on my bag and it came to be very useful when my bag was delivered to the wrong albergue. I could locate it on my phone and have a taxi deliver it to me.
I have the Samsung smart tag. If you are Apple they also have a great tag.
I thought this was overkill when my son recommended it and then bought it for me to use for the Camino. Once again he was light years ahead of me 😂

I had one occasion where my bag was not delivered. I was able to WhatsApp them and they found it and delivered it. The tag is a great idea.

My wife and I are using backpack transfer every day of our upcoming Camino from St Jean to Santiago. The first day, Express Bouricott will handle the transfer to Roncesvalles, then Jaco trans will handle the rest. When our hiking plan was clear and reservations confirmed I contacted Jaco trans and sent them a simple message with day, pickup location, drop off location. They confirmed back to me and gave me a 25% discounted price compared to daily transfers. They sent a single hangtag with a bar code / GPS that includes our names and all transfer information. We will laminate these, attach to our backpacks, then will be good to go. This is the same approach we used for my wife's backpack transfer in 2019 and Jaco trans' performance was flawless. Bob

Thank you for sharing! I received one of these kinds of tags several years ago as a gift but it doesn't work so well. Looks like some progress has been made since. I am going to order one or two of them straight away. I tend to carry my backpack but still, this sounds really useful. Thanks again!!!

I also have a hang tag with a qr code. It was still misdelivered. The tags are relatively inexpensive. I recommend them now after my experience.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc

Will this help family members keep track of your daily progress and whereabouts just in case? If it does I am buying one

Yes it can.

You have to give them permission on your account. Then they can see it. It does not leave a map of the path. Life360 app does do that. I am walking alone this week and my husband is keeping an eye on my progress.

We used a Tile 2 years ago and found it useful even if nothing went wrong. It was reassuring to be able to see that our bags were where they were supposed to be even before we arrived. If they were somewhere else that would have given us time to call and get a resolution going sooner. Definitely recommend getting one now as there are newer models.

According to the following article the technology in the SmartTag+ is only useful if you have certain models of Samsung Galaxy phones, like the Galaxy 20 Ultra.

You don't need to purchase anything extra for your family to track you. If you have Google Maps on your phone you can simply turn on location sharing.

Google Maps it is since I only have a Samsung 10 phone. Thank you all for all this info. Now my 3 adult kids can track me next year.

If you wanted to use a SmartTag for your backpack then the regular SmartTags (not the plus model) will work with your phone, but again it's not necessary for your family to keep track of your whereabouts.

Forgot to thank Trecile for the research she always does for all of us with these types of questions. Greatly appreciated info!
Thank you! 😊

Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
Question from the technically restarted here. Can you put it inside what you sending so no one can remove it or does it go inside? Thanks

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-

Either inside or outside. There is some potential loss of signal if it is inside something, depending on what it is inside. If it was inside a metal box, for example, then you would have no or very little signal. No point in putting it inside your super special wallet that is designed to shield your credit cards. For plastic and material normally used in luggage or backpacks then there would not be a noticable loss of signal.

You are at the mercy of other people in the vicinity of where your tag is though. There needs to be people around the tag that have equipment that is compatible with the tag. In a large USA city things will work much better than in a remote Spanish village but on a popular Camino such as the Frances there are probably enough high tech "others" around that the tags will be useful.

So far I have had great location tracking, I'm in Lorca now. I attach it to my luggage lock, it's secure on the outside of the bag.

I agree. Nothing but applause for this great service.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
