Hi everyone,

Really glad to have found this forum before I begin my journey on the Camino Frances.

I am planning to travel from Bilbao to Roncesvalles. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get from Bilbao to Roncesvalles by bus or train, how much this trip would cost and how long it would take?

Many thanks in advance!

Hi @amyqwerty and welcome on this forum! You are at the right place to ask information.

A good start is the website Rometorio which is easy to navigate but please feel free to ask for more info if needed.

Bus from Bilbao to Pamplona and then depending on the time of the year another local bus or taxi to Roncesvalles.

Happy preparations!

Hi @amyqwerty, if you scroll down to similar threads Valery asked that same question, you might find some advice there. I caught the bus from Bilbao to Pamplona and then to St Jean Pied de Port, not sure if there's a bus to Roncesvalles. Have a great time on your camino!!

Hi Amy, welcome. There is a bus service from Bilbao to Pamplona. I was checking timetables recently, and was dismayed to see no availability for my proposed travel date. The company is La Burundesa, but Omio is a site where they are very helpful for finding tickets for many bus companies. I rang the number they gave for Ireland, as I live here. So it doesn't matter if you don't have enough Spanish. Having reached Pamplona, there is a local bus to Roncesvalles. It takes around an hour. Tickets can be bought in the bus station, or I imagine, on the bus. No booking, it is a local service bus. Here is a screenshot, and a link to the website where I found this information for you. I have no idea if the local bus will be running now that the high season is over, but I know someone who used to travel on it every week day before Covid, so it is not a ghost bus, it does travel. Buen camino, when it comes.

Hi everyone! Wow, thank you so much for such a warm welcome. After two years of no international travel (for obvious reasons) I was feeling slightly anxious about my upcoming trip on the Camino Frances, however you have all made me feel much more relaxed!

I'll have a look at other threads for advice, thanks Ali@59!

Great to hear that taking the bus from Bilbao to Pamplona seems to be fairly easy, and then either a bus or a taxi from there to Roncesvalles. Thanks again everyone! :)
