Tech help — calling my usual suspect saviors!

Several of us are about to embark on a virtual planning thread for the Camino de Madrid. @C clearly posted the link to the Madrid Camino Association.

https://demadridalcamino.com/

They have a number of different pages about different topics, but one specifically devoted to the Camino de Madrid. I can get on the website just fine. On their home page, there are two places to access the “Camino de Madrid” part of the site.

When I click on the “Camino de Madrid“ tab at the top of the page (first screen shot), AND when I click on the larger map picture towards the bottom (second screen shot), all I get is a blank page (third screen shot). This happens both from my iphone and my ipad.

This is the one page that should be very helpful because it lists etapas (I know that because AJ has showed me what he sees on his phone).

Turns out that when I go to the tabs on that first screen shot, I have the same problem with the other drop down menus (Camino de Santiago, Todos los Caminos, and Blog/Noticias) but get the pages for Credencial, Quienes Somos, Biblioteca and Contacto). So my powers of logic lead me to wonder whether it has to do with the fact of the drop down menu. The Camino de Madrid isn’t expicitly a drop down menu, but what AJ showed me was that it has a list of all the individual stages, so it might be the equivalent of a drop down. Whereas the others are just single pages. If that makes sense.

Any ideas, oh tech friends on high?

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
The pages seem to download properly for me, but I am not using an iphone or ipad. However, the embedded maps function a bit oddly.

The Noticias tab has some recent news posts, but I wonder how recently the stage-by-stage information has been updated. Some albergues are clearly marked "Cerrado", which suggests a recent update, but it would be nice to see a date.

Hi Laurie
I think it might be an Apple browser issue.
I get the blank white page on the Madrid and Todos los Caminos pages when I'm using the Safari browser on my Mac. But I can see everything via the Firefox browser (which happens to be on a Windows machine, but I don't think that's important).
So are you using Safari? If so, I'd guess that the web designer hasn't got round to checking that the pages function fully with Safari. Some people don't, because they assume everyone will use Chrome.
Cheers, tom

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
That is strange that Chrome wouldn't work. Here's what I get on Safari (and on Chrome) on a MacBook Pro for the above URL:

Maybe it's an iPhone/iPad issue, but I do get the map and the stages as pictured above on Safari on my iPhone.

The address bar looks like this, though:

And the same barred addition in the address bar for todos los camino:

There is a definite pause between the top of the screen and the information about the stages but I do get the stage information, see screenshot

This is obviously a secondary data flow but at the moment I don't have time to investigate further.

It may well be that Apple's browsers are blocking the stage information as part of a security feature.

I translated the page in Chrome and the stage information was not translated and this indicates that Chrome sees the stage information separately.

It may be being loaded from a different URL and the Apple browsers think that it might be a cross-site scripting attack and so are blocking the content.

I don't have an Apple browser but someone who does could try turning off security protection and see if that fixes it.

Hi @peregrina2000

I use my iphone11 for forum use almost 99% of the time....... but I've just found that I get the same thing happening to me on it as you mention...(with that link you've given in your first post..) blank page etc.,

So I've just jumped onto my pc here now... and find that the file opens fully and I don't get the blank page etc.

Also have to add the comment that it's a wonderful site.. I'm heading out this morning but will definitely have a better squizzie later today. Thanks for sharing it.. I hadn't even realised that there was an amigos office in Sol / Madrid..which is pretty much the start point.....so close to the church.

Looking forward to following the virtual thread for CdeM that @C clearly has started..

We are getting 'revved up' here in Oz with anticipation of international travel & the possibility of getting to Spain.. (my state here in Oz / NSW... has now achieved 80% double Vax rate (of eligible 16+ pop) & @AJGuillaume 's state (Vic) won't be far behind!!!!...

It looks to me like the Camino de Madrid Amigos website is just some sort of shell/overlay page that links to (is fed by) the website of the Federación Española de Asociaciones... Maybe that is what @Doughnut NZ means when he says "This is obviously a secondary data flow" and that somehow Apple doesn't accept it.

Yes, I noticed that too, and we should meet there on our virtual walk starting next week!

Thanks for the additional information.

Sorry for the techo talk that follows

By default Safari on iPhones blocks third party cookie tracking and that makes sites that use iFrames that load data from a third site (i.e. not you and not the site who's URL you accessed) problematic to view.

As @C clearly states, the Camino de Madrid Amigos website loads data from the Federación Española de Asociaciones site into an iFrame. The third party site wants to set cookies to control what to display and Safari blocks the setting of those cookies.

The short of it is that if you want to access the friends of the Camino Madrid website from your iphone then either don't use Safari or get into the security settings for Safari and turn off this option. This link purports to explain how to do this but I don't know if it works or not, try at your own risk.

Alternatively access the third party site directly, use a different browser or a different device. 🙂

Hi Laurie, I found a Camino de Madrid by Antonio Villena on the Apple App called Camino Madrid Basic, but there is also a Premium upgrade for 2,99 € that would include all the albergues and services information. It shows the stages in google maps. Maybe this might help:)
