I bought and wore a pair of the Hoka One Speed Goats on the Camino Portuguese this spring and absolutely loved them. Like you I was done with boots. I did bring a pair of Tevas with me as well, but really only wore those in the evenings.
Rabanal Del Camino was the most special place I stayed on the entire CF and I slept at Hosteria A Cruz de Ferro and had an amazing dinner there as well with a lovely group of pilgrims. It's one of my most special memories.
Burgos is such a wonderful city, it seems like a shame to miss. I walked from SJPP to Burgos and then I took a train from Burgos to Leon and walked on to Santiago from there. It took me 32 days, but I would spend an extra day in towns I really liked like Logrono and Burgos.
Don't be paranoid to the point that you ruin your walk, but ALWAYS trust your radar. The one time I told myself I was being crazy I ended up being mugged after every warning bell in my head had told me I was putting myself in a stupid situation and NO it was not on any camino. It was a taxi I...
Your way is the best way. I did almost the exact same thing. To be doubly sure, I put everything that wasn't dry cleanable into a large garbage bag which I also bought at the chinese dime store and sprayed about half a can of bug spray which I bought at the pharmacy into it. Tied it up, let it...
I flew into Paris, took the TGV directly from Charles de Gaulle airport to Bayonne and then caught another train from there on into SJPDP. It was a long day of travel, but I enjoyed it. Everyone getting off at SJPDP was headed to the camino and all looked pretty bleary eyed, but there was the...
I walked last October 3-Nov. 5th and had an incredible time. The weather was perfect, I felt like it was just the right amount of people.....not too busy, not too lonely. I never had a hard time finding a bed, but I was opting for private rooms most nights. I, too, tried to stay off the...
It is definitely in Rabanal, on the main drag up the street, close to the monastery where they have the Gregorian chant at 7:00pm. I don't think you need to worry about reserving.
Casa Magica was wonderful right before Estella. Dinner cooked with love by a great couple and no bunk beds!! ...Cruz de Ferro in Rabanal was so special...had a private room there, met great people over a delicious dinner.
Using Orisson is giving me the flexibility to sleep in a bit, get over some jet lag and also get my passport in the morning as opposed to rushing to do it straight off the train. It also makes day one an easy start, so I'm not immediately discouraged!
Hi Keith,
It turns out quite a few of us are arriving the 2nd and starting to walk on the 3rd. We're all in this same crazy boat together and all slightly nervous. If life were exactly what we expected, how boring would that be?
Best,
Amanda
