Unlike Castrojeríz, Frómista (population 800) was totally flat. The Hotel San Martín was modest and was housed within a café. It was at the side of an empty square in the middle of which stood the imposing church of San Martín de Tours. Worth seeing!
I don't think so, unless maybe they have some concessions for the disabled or something. If you are sure of the date, I would book in advance, since I think the fast trains are all based on allocated seats. You can book on the Renfe site and there is an English option I think. If you want to...
Hi Jacotrans are very good and reliable. One thing to watch out for though - if you go off season (say Oct to March, but you need to check this), you will find that the cost through Jacotrans is much higher, about E 25/leg as I recall. During Correos (post office), I think end March or early...
Wow!! Thanks for letting us know. I have a ticket from Sarria to Madrid for the following day (Tues 8th). The trouble with strikes is that they obviously inconvenience you on the day but can also have 'knock-on' effects for the day after. I suppose buses are also a possibility, but they are...
Having been dragged up as a Catholic (with an Irish mother) and gone to a Jesuit grammar school (complete with regular beatings), I am thoroughly familiar with the 'offer your suffering up to Jesus' proposition. Walking the Camino just involves taking the rough with the smooth. This applies to...
I arrived in Carrion yesterday but had to get a taxi for the last 7km from Villalcazar because of leg injury. It was very easy to organise and only cost 8 euros. These are Carrion taxi #s recommended by hotel: Mariano - 659 602 144 or 662 557 568; Jesus 639 886 824. I had to take one just now to...
I just completed is as travelling tomorrow. Here is what email accompanying QR code says:
SpTH
Hello,
You have completed your Health Control Form (FCS) correctly.
REMEMBER that in order to travel to Spain you must bring the QR you have just received and the vaccination/diagnostic test/recovery...
I did the second stage yesterday (needs to be <48 hours before your trip). You simply have to give details of your vaccination (other possibilities are possible, eg if you can document prior infection etc.). Then they issue with a QR code to show when you arrive. I think you may also need to...
As someone else has recommended, I splashed out and stayed at El Cid, right next to the cathedral. It's worth spending an extra day in Burgos, as it is a major city and there is a lot to see.
At exactly that time I did just the bit from Pamplona to Burgos. Not many people around and some albergues closed, though I only stayed in hotels (being old codger). Lots of convenience shops etc also closed. There was some snow. Bring gloves. I met a few interesting people but I also kind of...
I got a direct bus from Bilbao. It took two hours and left at 10am - obviously you would need to check timetable. There was a hotel right near the Bilbao bus station, a bit spartan but just across the road, two minutes away - Hotel Estadio, 60 euros.
From memory (?), I got a train from SdC to Tuy, then taxi across the border in Valenca in Portugal, thence a train to Porto. I got off there, but I think train continued on to Lisbon. Tuy and Valenca are extremely close, about 5-10 minutes in a taxi.
I noticed before taking the downhill path that there was a pedestrian option on the left and a cycle option on the right. I took the former. Has any pedestrian taken the cycle option? I'd like to pass any thoughts on this to friends who at doing Camino shortly. Kindly resist the temptation of...
I would suggest one of the Portuguese walks. I did the central one in two stages: Porto to Tui; Tui to Santiago. I think it is easy to ascertain, but I had the impression that the coastal walk involved far longer distances (?check Brierley). That as I recall was why I didn't try it, being also...
