Hi, I'm arriving in Bilbao at 15.30hrs mid April to walk from Logroño onwards. There is one train around 15.30hrs. Álava bus company shows a schedule with a 16hr and 17hr bus from Bilbao intermodal line 17. I don't seem to find a way to ensure a seat by online booking. Any suggestions grateful...

If you want comfort for the first night, hotel Central is in a good location, very nice hotel. Gîte accommodation mostly on rue de la Citadelle offers a more authentic experience. Depends on what way you prefer to start. Buen camino.
It depends on which path you choose, there is probably more planning involved. Hostels are fewer but there are guest house style accommodation or hotels.
