Women: Advice on trail runners/shoes
I had good luck walking the Camino Frances with Northface trail shoes. Just remember to buy at least a size larger as your feet will swell and your toes will need more room!- Amy Mellencamp

Extra day off
We did rest days in Logrono (great city and tapas!), Castrojeriz (small sleepy town which we enjoyed, Leon (definitely do Leon), and Triacastela (another smaller town but it was well-timed after the long day before).
