    Air mattress, useful or not?

I just finished the Primitivo and had no problem showing up at albergues without booking. There are plenty of services. Enjoy!

Visit San Juan de la Pena 2 nights in albergue?

Stay at the albergue in Santa Cilia. They let you stay two nights there for a visit to the monastery.

    Quick drying hiking tshirt help

Merino all the way. Doesn't stink and dries quickly. Anything synthetic (running shirts etc.) will stink, no matter how many times you wash them.

    Buying Trekking Poles in SJPdP?

I bought mine in SJPdP for less than 20 euros. There are at least two pilgrim outfitter places there. I also got a great poncho that I couldn't buy in Canada. You'll definitely want those poles for the first few days. It's 1-2 days over the Pyrenees and then several days of descent into...

Guidebook or App for Walking the Camino Primitivo?

I used to be a guidebook-only kind of pilgrim, but last year I walked the Portuguese Coastal camino and exclusively used apps such as @wisepilgrim. LOVE the map feature, where you can see at a glance exactly where you are and if you're off the camino.

    Opening an albergue

Agreed. I volunteered at three albergues on two different caminos in Spain one summer, to get a feel for what it's like. It's bloody hard work. And you don't get to know pilgrims well because they're only with you for one evening, then you're up cleaning toilets and getting ready for the next...

Compiling a list of refugios that accept tents

I just bought a tent to take on my next camino as an option, as I know many albergues have gardens. Plus I love the idea of being away from the snoring hordes!

    Incognito Celebrities on the Camino

I walked with Irish singer Glen Hansard for a week in 2015.

    Thinking about tents

I am also thinking about bringing a camping solution on my next camino. But the shelter will be determined partially by the route. I have a Hennessy Hammock - a great camping hammock that is heaven to sleep in - but that requires trees (or other vertical supports) to attach to, so the arid...

Advice of those who have walked May/June

I walked this route beginning May 16, 2015. I bought a rain poncho in St. Jean Pied de Port and only used it once, but was very glad I had it! I guess I lucked out, because I only had ONE day of heavy rain: the day I crossed the Pyrenees. Like everyone has said here, layers are your best bet...

    New albergue in Lescar?

For anyone that has walked the route from Arles in the past year, is there a new albergue/refuge in Lescar? There's a brief mention of it on gronze.com but I can't find any details.

Comment by 'ahemobile' in media 'Camino del Norte Packing List'

Great post, Tania! FYI it's spelled Merino, nor Moreno. :)

So what happens if you lose all your money?

A pilgrim I befriended on the camino lost her bank cards and credit cards. She messaged me right away, and since I was in the same town, I went directly to her hotel and helped her out. I loaned her 100 euros and arranged to meet in Santiago, where she paid me back once her money from home could...

    Returning to the "real life"

Great idea. Love that place. I'm in!
