I walked the Tomar to Coimbra section last May and there were very few pilgrims. Had I not teamed up with another pilgrim I'd have been walking alone. I estimate that there were only about 20 people a day walking this bit. We met in albergues at night.
Just finished. Whilst actually walking, for me it was as worthwhile and immersive as a longer Camino. What I missed was the daily rhythm of albergue life. That's partly because I was on the A Coruña branch which is less frequented, and partly because I had to do short stages and therefore stayed...
Suggest you post this as a new thread, so more people will see it. I can't help as I'm further
along the Camino, and wasn't on the Ferrol branch anyway.
A good list, and we're all different. These are things I've taken in the past, but not now:
Spork
smartish blouse for evening - perhaps equivalent to your peasant blouse
String
torch
hand sanitizer (there's sanitiser out in many albergues and other places)
I've never taken pegs, battery unit...
6 days before I was due to leave for Spain I found myself in great pain after doing just 12 miles. I have come nevertheless, with had two long but relaxed days on the train. I started walking yesterday and have done a couple of slow 10k days. Doing OK and enjoying stopping to smell the jasmine...
So, I managed to lose my lovely Tilley hat. Left behind I think, in a shop in Cambre. Going back for it not an option as the place is closed today, Sunday.
Am I destined to arrive in Santiago wearing my towel on my head? Believe me, it's a better option than using my spare shirt or trousers.
Is...
If not too late just a warning that new boots even exactly the same model and size, are not necessarily the same. I prevaricated over whether to resole my Meindl boots or buy new ones. It seemed to make sense to buy new. After several miles breaking in time, just before Camino, they were still...
Interesting. I've only just started walking, from A Coruña but it does feel odd. Haven't seen a single pilgrim, haven't heard a single " buen Camino" and bar and hotel staff seem a bit non-plussed by a solo older woman in walking gear.
Two beautiful churches were open (Santiago in O Burgo and...
Thank you for some helpful and sympathetic responses. To make it clear that I am not using this forum as a replacement for medical help but I am trying to "self manage" a condition, as my GP practice encourages its patients to do. I know that I am nowhere near the current criteria for a NHS hip...
When I started to get hip pain after walking a couple of years ago, after x rays, my doctor concluded "wear and tear commensurate with age - carry on walking". My hips grumbled a bit on Camino last year, nothing overnight rest didn't put right, and do sometimes on regular walks at home.
I'm...
Another vote here for the Osprey Tempest series. Mine is 20l with three stretch and three zip pockets which felt just right. Added bonus is that you can carry an A4 document such as a Compostela flat in the space meant for a hydration bladder!
Late to this, but realise that my experience with the Osprey Tempest 20l might be helpful as I'm about the same height, weight and age as you. Also aim to pack as light as possible to save hips, knees etc
I bought mine about ten years ago in a specialist outdoor shop where they fitted and...
