Another question from Marska ... sorry all!

Mariska I walked from SJPDP TO SDC from mid-September to mid—October 2017. We were blessed with wonderful weather for virtually the whole way. In the first two weeks we actually had morning temperatures in the upper thirties Fahrenheit, when you just had to layer for the first 30 minutes or so...

Camino Frances in October - long or short-sleeve merino?

I walked the CF in 2017 from mid-September until the third week in October. The first part of the walk was actually the coldest of the pilgrimage (mid 30s F). I wore a lightweight hiking shirt with a long-sleeve Smartwool quarter zip and a lightweight down vest. On all my walks, I am usually...

    2023 festivals

In 2017, we had rest days in Logrono and Leon and in both places and we lucked out that there were big festivals. In Logrono, on September 20, 2017, there was the Harvest Festival and in Leon on October 4, 2017, there was the Medieval Festival. Both were great fun and we had two nights and one...

Rabanal to Cruz de Ferro, walk on road?

Here's the path a few hours past the Cruz de Ferro. As the others have said, not for a walk with a bad ankle. Buen Camino.

How fast do you walk on the Camino?

My planning target for walking is an average of 4 kph. Over the course of a long hike like the Camino, this is a number that works for me over varied terrain. I am 69.

Flying from Vancouver - better to fly Paris to Biarritz or take the train?

I have taken the train and also traveled by jet from Paris to Biarritz and flying for me was much cheaper than the train, and way less time. I rested in SJPP for 2 nights after flying, and had a refreshed start to my Camino on the Napoleon Route. It’s worth checking out the prices of each option.

    Experienced CP pilgrims...how many days?

In 2019, I walked the route from Porto to Santiago taking 12 days plus 2 rest days over 256 km. Here are the stages: Porto, Matosinhos, Vila do Conde, Barcelos, Ponte de Lima (plus rest day), Rubiaes, Valenca, Porrino, Rendondela, Pontevedra (plus rest day), Caldas de Reis, Padron...

    A new credential?

In 2016, I walked a section of the Way of Le Puy from Aire-sur-l'Adour to SJPP with my son. I saved the credential from that walk, and in 2017 when I walked the Camino Frances from SJPP to Santiago I used a new credential. I brought the Way of Le Puy credential with me and presented both to the...

Advice: should we attempt SJPP to Roncesvalles?

I first walked SJPP all the way on a beautiful September day, as a 65 year old with my friends who were also 65 and 73. We left at 8;00 am, paced ourselves, rested along the way were careful going down hill at the end of the day and arrived at 5:15. I trained in Chicago along Lake Michigan and...

The Origins of the Route Napoléon Name

Reading this thread reminds me of my early days translating Latin stories, specifically Hannibal crossing the Pyrenees by elephant. He crossed the Pyrenees by the Col du Perthus, a relatively low pass near the eastern end of the mountains, not very close to the Napoleon Route!
