    Shoes for the Salvador

Hi! I saw that you wrote about the San Salvador awhile back. I’ll be walking that stretch in June and then onto the Primitivo for the second time. My Altra trail runners did fine on the Primitivo, but I’m wondering if I’d be better off with my Oboz boots for the San Salvador? Any advice you can...

Looking for advice for Camino Primitivo

You can break up you walk to Lugo by staying at Pociña de Muñiz. It’s such a beautiful place with amazing owners. We’ll be there in June. Can’t wait to get back to stay there. Such a great and relaxing vibe.

    Bouncing between Central and Coastal

Whatever you do, I highly recommend doing the Variante Espiritual whatever you decide about the first part.

Safety concerns: First time walking Camino Portuguese as a female traveller

I was on the Camino Portugues when our group heard a siren going off. It turns out a woman was being followed and flashed by a man. She had a personal safety alarm with her and used it. That’s not a bad ideal. You never know when a situation like that can escalate, and she looked pretty shaken...

    Albergues from Porto

That also depends. This first time I did it was early morning. The second time I got off the boat at 2pm. Still made it into SdC that day with a lunch stop.

Making a Reservation at Casa Fernanda

The Variante Espiritual is less traveled than the Central Way. So to me it is more quiet, especially the Agua y Piedras path out of Armenteira. And the monasteries in Poio and Armenteira are so nice to stop for the meditative reflection that many try to experience on camino. Not sure how it’s a...

    Albergues from Porto

It depends if you’re walking the coastal route or central or a combination. If you’re sticking to the coast, I found Casa do Sardao (Hugo’s place) in Carreco so tranquil. Many pilgrims stay there. I also love La Cala Inn in Oia. It’s another place that’s very tranquil. Also I highly recommend...

Camino with the most animal encounters

The Camino Primitivo had many cows, horses, sheep, etc. Some were right on the Camino, and we had two horses follow us for a 100 feet while we walked.

    Patches on my backpack?

Do not iron them on. It will melt a hole in your pack. You can get patch adhesive on Amazon. I got a brand called Patch Magic.

Should I Make Advance Reservations on the Coastal Route in May/June 2022?

Agreed! I also changed some things in my plans and was able to find accommodations two days or so in advance. It was good to have things reserved that I could also cancel through booking and still be flexible if something changed. A friend I met on the camino suggested I stay at the Monestery in...

Should I Make Advance Reservations on the Coastal Route in May/June 2022?

Hi, I just did this route in September of 2021. I chose private rooms when I could for covid safety. And I did book in advance. Places filled even during this time, and private rooms in particular go fast. I reserved through booking, but they don’t always show all of their private rooms. You can...
