Goodbye Australia, tomorrow I become a pilgrim

Thanks everyone, I'm off in a few hours. Looking forward to the "tropical" warmth, we had hail last week. The earplugs are packed! Brenda

Goodbye Australia, tomorrow I become a pilgrim

Well, the time has come. Tomorrow I fly to Spain to begin a massive adventure. From Barcelona I'll make my way up to St Jean Pied de Port, where my long awaited (6 years) camino starts. I've read so much on this forum, I almost feel like I've done it, yet I know it'll still be nothing like I...

    Starting St Jean 19 October!

Go Russell! You'll come powering up behind me, I'm hoping to leave on the 16th, staying overnight at Orisson. I'll be walking at a leisurely pace, hopefully in beautiful sunshine (it's hailing in Ballarat at the moment). I have 5 more sleeps and am getting nervous. Buen Camino and enjoy, Brenda

    Refuge d'Orisson in 2 weeks

Good luck Jody! If you get in to Orisson, let them know I'm coming on the 16th! Have a safe and happy camino, doubt that I'll catch up with you but it'd be fun to meet up. Buen Camino, Brenda

    Refuge d'Orisson in 2 weeks

Thanks Margaret for the other address. Alas, still no reply. Perhaps I'm impatient as well as excited and nervous. Jody, when are you walking? Brenda

    Refuge d'Orisson in 2 weeks

I have 9 more sleeps till I leave Australia!! Very excited and nervous at the same time. I'm planning to stay in St Jean Pied de Port on October 15 to start walking the next day. I've tried e-mailing Orisson in English and in French (thanks to my son!) to book in for the night of the 16th...

    Any October Starters?

You're not alone in your nervousness Rebecca, me too! But we'll be fine, as everyone says, we won't be alone for long. Buen Camino, Brenda

Is there anything you miss on your Camino?

Where is Rebekah's house? That sounds good! I still have 6 weeks of normal towel usage, then it's the little microfibre thing for a while.

Orisson---they want a bank transfer to confirm

Wow, this is all sounding very difficult, not an ideal way to start a much awaited walk. I too plan to stay at Orisson, probably around 16th Oct, but had no idea it was going to be complicated. Perhaps ignorance is bliss. I emailed them in English (with apologies for my lack of French) just...

will it be cold by mid November?

Anita, I recently e-mailed Hostal Orisson to see if they were open October 20th this year and they replied "yes". Perhaps you should e-mail them, it seems unlikely that they would be closed a few days later. I expect to be there sometime between Oct 17 and Oct 20, haven't quite decided yet...

Leon to Santiago in 2 Weeks?

I have 2 friends who did it in 2 weeks last year at that time of year. One of them wasn't terribly fit and was asthmatic. I can't comment on the crowds, all I know is they loved it. Good luck!

    Pilgrim Office closed?

I've heard that the Pilgrim Office in St Jean PdP closes mid-October. How do I get a Pilgrim Passport if I arrive In St Jean PdP and find it closed? I'll probably arrive around 16th or 17th October. Can I order one beforehand?
