    Zubiri albergue Suseia

Zubiri has been a nightmare to find anywhere to stay for a long time now. Quite why the municipal has stayed closed for years I don’t understand

Advice: should we attempt SJPP to Roncesvalles?

I’ve done the napoleon route 3 times - the first time stopping at Orrison which whilst lovely was so hard being there from mid morning leaving me kicking my heels and wanting to keep going. Hence the next two times I’ve gone straight to Roncevalles which i much prefer. I was in my 50s on all...

DWR. Treating Rain Gear with Durable Water Repellant

Hi Gerald. Having walked three Caminos (Frances) I have been soaked to the skin on three occasions - maybe not too bad at an average of only one drenching per Camino but I sort of assumed that it was par for the course in torrential rain it could not be avoided. I had purchased what I thought...

    Packing lists

I tend to end up cooking for several pilgrims - usually a veggie chilli and I will be taking chilli powder this year as it’s a devil to find in Spain oddly

Can we please talk kilometres, litres, Celsius, right-side driving, etc.?

I think Celsius IS metric as it takes 1 calorie to heat one liter of water by one degree centigrade - all perfectly aligned - even appreciates by a Brit albeit I can convert pretty much anything in my head - an odd gift maybe!

I am sure many many members will know exactly how you are feeling. I am two days away from departure and wondering why I am putting myself through this again after having done it before so I have little excuse for pre Camino nerves BUT your courage will reward you richly. That I do know without...

    Rabanal del camino to ponferrada

The downhill section starts a way beyond Foncebaddon and by the time you reach Acebo you have plenty of decent track and road decent ending at Molinesca. If you are careful I don’t think you’ll have an especially difficult descent. Just take it slowly.

    Futility of Over planning

True true. Thanks for your kind words. I did think about Valcarlos but that looks a bit lonely especially if I’m feeling rough

    Futility of Over planning

Thanks for the words of encouragement- just what I needed lying here feeling sorry for myself. There are however so many inspirational stories on this forum of real adversity so I am sure I can shrug this off

What was the biggest surprise of your Camino?

My biggest surprise was without doubt how time slows down. Every day was so intense that I truly lost any sense of normal time frames. After a week, when arriving in Logroño, I could have been away from home a month or more. I can’t quite put my finger on why that is but it’s wonderful...
