I always hand washed my clothes on the VF. Indeed I have always hand washed on any of the Caminos I have walked. I do not wear "technical". I have had no problems. Taking a drying line is a good idea. I generally use the same soap for my clothes...
I ended up using laundromats a few times between Lucca and Rome. Even when there was a washing area, the drying area would often be a rack near an open window, but not exposed to the sun. I never had a host offer to wash clothes for me.
You can see Victor walks alongside us all the way up, so no need to know how to ride. He's right there all along.
It was very nice to just enjoy the view for that hour or two.
