    Albergue Emaus in Burgos —CLOSED

We were very fortunate to stay at Emaús last September—one of our favorite experiences on the Camino! We had very good experiences everywhere, but nothing can compare to how welcomed we felt there. 🥰 The communal dinner was wonderful and the fellowship with the other pilgrims afterward was a...

    Shoe issues CF from SJPDP

Sorry I’m just now seeing this — his are not waterproof, and I’m not sure if they’re “exploits” — sorry! They only say FutureLights. But, he wore them in the rain (light showers all day) and with the merino socks his feet were mostly dry!

    Processionary caterpillars are DANGEROUS!!!

Web worms are not the same as these processionary moths. The web worms we have in the Southern US are harmless except for stripping hardwood trees of their leaves.

    Shoe issues CF from SJPDP

My husband also needs a wide toe box and had Speedgoat 5s, one size larger than his normal size, but had issues with his toes hitting the top/front of the shoe coming down to Zubiri. As he continued to walk in them the issues with his toes became much worse because they continued to rub against...

    Accommodation prebooking

We pre-booked our entire camino and I don't regret it! We did change our plans once after the initial booking and had to rebook about 60% of it 🤦‍♀️, but the hosteleros and albergue owners were incredibly nice and flexible in moving our dates. It relieved a lot of stress we would have had over...

Tips for Tackling O Cebreiro Hill During Your Camino Walk

We also stayed the night in Las Herrerías and tackled O Cebreiro mid-morning. I remember that part of thee climb was tough, but we didn't have nearly as hard a time with that climb as I anticipated. And, the tough part didn't last as long as I feared — I was thinking it would be on par with...

How much did you spend and what was the total cost of your Camino Frances, start to finish?

For a 35-day trip beginning in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Finisterre, our total budget pre-trip for two people, minus airfare and transportation, was $6,400 USD. Those expenses included all of our gear (backpacks, clothing, shoes, trekking poles, rain gear, sleep system, etc.), e-bike rentals...

Need help cutting down on gear/weight in my pack 🙏

The compression bags worked great for us because they allowed us to squeeze the contents down to the smallest we could make them and helped us pack everything comfortably into our backpacks. The compression bags were ultra lightweight, so any weight they added was negligible, IMO.

    Takeaways from our first Camino

Thank you for that info! My husband and I were talking about different routes we might consider sometime after 2024 — we will keep those in mind!

    Takeaways from our first Camino

Me, too — and I don't regret having the extra layers that I carried! I used everything I had on most days. I had a mid-weight fleece jacket and a puffy, down vest, plus a merino base layer in addition to my hiking pants and shirts. I also had a dry fit short sleeve shirt that I wore over the...

    Takeaways from our first Camino

We booked 80% of our accommodations about 9 months in advance. We wanted to make sure we had places booked in the busiest areas and on the longest walk days. There were actually a lot of others booking that far in advance also, because several places we looked were already fully booked — even...

    Takeaways from our first Camino

We didn't mail anything home — we actually bought more clothes after a week or so to help cut down the laundry frequency. We used washing machines and dryers when available — that's another area where we could have saved some time, but to be honest, we were so exhausted by the time we got to...

    Takeaways from our first Camino

We completed our first camino (Camino Francés) Sept.–Oct. this year. We planned for a year, seeking advice from veterans in this forum, YouTube vlogs, Facebook groups, Reddit and various blogs and websites. This forum was by far the most helpful, so I wanted to follow up and share some of our...

New St Jean to Burguete Video

Thanks for posting your video! We started out on Sept. 8, just a week behind you. It's nice to relive the walk on that first day! We kept saying the same thing — "Surely, the downhill starts soon ... how much more uphill can there be?!" 😰 LOL

    September 7th Biarritz Express Bouricott

We're starting our first Camino on Sept. 8. We arrive in SJPdP on 9/7 and will begin walking on 9/8. We have an existing reservation with Express Bourricot at ~2pm local time from Biarritz Airport following the arrival of our flight from CDG if anyone else is looking for rideshare/transportation...
