Hello - I'm from Sydney but now based in Berlin. I walked the Camino Frances in September 2019, however, I first learnt about the Camino back in 1984 as I happened to be in SDC when on a year-long 'sabbatical' from work travelling America and Europe with my then partner. We met 2 young women who had just completed their walk and they enlightened us about their experience. I felt so ignorant that I'd never known about the Camino but was instantly interested and filed away the idea somewhere in my head. Fast forward 35 years and I eventually did it - can't be accused of rushing into things?
It was a great experience and I met so many inspiring people (eg the 85 year old lady I literally 'ran into' on a dense trail east of Roncevalles on her 5th Camino!)
I would have been back in 2020 if not for the plague and am hoping this year will be as rewarding as my first experience.
For me, the first walk was about the challenge - I had no idea whether I could actually walk the distance despite having kept reasonably fit thru sport and embracing the outdoor lifestyle in Oz. Happily, I had no issues and this time I hope to meet many more interesting people and hear their reasons for undertaking such a big challenge. For me everyone's motive is 100% legitimate and so many are inspirational.
I'm starting from Lisbon on ca.1st September and hope to make it on to Finisterre this time as well.
I wish you all the time of your lives.
Thanks,
Chris
