Congrats to all who’ve battled PD and walked the Camino. When I was diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago with Parkinson’s, the first thing I googled was, can I hike on the Camino with Parkinson’s? As there did not seem to be a good reason not to (I had walked 4 previous times) that became my pandemic...
We traveled the Inglés this past May/June and other than making our Santiago reservations well in advance, we did not make our reservations until March and April. If you are trying for a municipal albergue where it’s the only game in town and you can’t make reservations, you might want to check...
I posted to another future Camino Ingles first timer on another thread yesterday of my friend and I staying at Rectoral de Cine, a 1000 yr. old rectory about 10 min. from Museo Restaurant in Presedo, where they’ll pick you up. As I too have Parkinson’s, and walk slowly, I knew it was the only...
We just returned last week from the Ingles. It was great and much less crowded than the Frances. We broke it up into half stages as I have health issues, so we spent 11 days instead of the 5-7 day average. We booked everything ourselves through booking. Com or directly with accommodations...
I’ve just returned from Camino Ingles, my third Camino (Frances and Portuguese completed 2017, 2019). I’m 70, with a 2 yr. diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease, which impacts movement and balance and speed. As such, my friend and I took the 5-6 day walk and completed it in 11 days. We were really...
Congratulations on your tenacity and courage. Over the past 9 years, I’ve walked the Frances in 2+ stages and the Portuguese—all in good health. Currently on Ingles with my 18 month diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease. Very slow as I need to maintain strength and energy. Taking 12 days with two...
Since we’re allowed one checked bag, we carry backpack on board and scrounge up a cardboard box to put in hiking sticks for both parties, and even a Swiss Army knife or two. Not been lost yet.
Thanks for all great info. I’m traveling with 3 other 70+ ladies in May (2 are Camino newbies). I’ve completed Frances and Portuguese over past 9 yrs. Question: due to my PD movement disorder with slower speed and distance issues, we’re hoping to break up the 5-6 day travel time into 9-10 days...
