I believe the multiple names for one town arise largely in the Basque country--one name in Spanish, another in Basque. Later on, watch out for all the towns named Villafranca + something. Another potential source of confusion.

My son and I stayed at La Posada Neuva last fall as did three other people we met along the way. We all found the rooms clean and comfortable. The evening meal was good, but there is a bar if you want a less expensive meal as well as a good grocery store for purchasing your own food. We had...
In three days, I’m off. First to see the York (England) Mystery Plays, with my son in a cast of 500, and then on August 30 starting the Camino Frances from St. Jean. Even though the items numbered exactly 100 on my spread sheet, I can happily report that my back pack weight comes in at 13 1/2...
If the notice you saw was from the Pension Badalada in Santiago, I recommend it. My family has used it twice with good service, and my son stayed there in March and recommends it.

I am sorry that your experience on the Camino Frances did not include the fellowship you had hoped for, particularly since you had gone out of your way to help me prepare for the Camino Ingles. You offered to share some detailed information by PM which I took you up on. My son and I used your...
Thank you both for your help. Now I think my son may be able to see the Eunate Church even with his limited time schedule. That would be a treat for a medieval history student. However, I wish I had not looked at the schedules and found out that what requires me to walk for a day is only a 30...
The ALSA site purports to have a feature that searches for a bus route to get you from your starting city to a stage on the Camino Frances. But I keep getting an incorrect date message. Does anyone know how the system works? I have tried a July date in case my original date was too far in...
I am planning on leaving St Jean on August 29 and not arriving in Santiago until October 31! I will turn 65 in mid-October and much prefer an amble or dawdle to a faster pace. I planning on my 10 miles/16 km a day--with a day off each week--will get me to Santiago in time. So, I'm sure you...
Here are two recommendations my podiatrist, and a triathlete and hiker, gave me for my camino:
1) Try using support socks or stockings normally worn to prevent blood clots. Triathletes use them, and running stores carry various brands. I used them as my liner sock. They worked very well for...
Agreed, no ferry. We did not find any ferry service last September when we planned our walk and also flew into A Coruna. The busses are frequent. There is also rail service, but the busses go more often and may be cheaper. Once in Ferrol, you can walk from the bus station to the harbor for...
