    Training

I walked the Camino last June, I'm now 66 and trained for two years walking 30 + km a day with full pack. Once I hit the Pyrenees all bets were off. Toughest time of my life. My pack was 12kg and after Perusing, I started to jettison items. Walking steep grades up and down should be the focus...

    Being alone in the albergues?

And never felt uneasy, everyone was friendly and helpful. Just relax and be aware of your surroundings and you'll be fine. Be open, non judgemental and all will be the experience of a lifetime

My parting thoughts on my camino

For me, the most profound impact is meeting all of the pilgrims from around the world and how we all treat each other with love and acceptance. I just wish the question of why we are doing the Camino would be set aside, we all walk for different reasons, sometimes not knowing why.

My parting thoughts on my camino

My opinion, is to leave the stones piled on the markers, clear off the piles on the path, they can be a hazard, don't judge people's reasons for placing a stone on a marker or cross, deeply personal, none of our business and examine why you feel the need to knock them off. Might as well remove...

My parting thoughts on my camino

I thought I knew why I was doing the Camino, now, not so sure. Started off in a group, but left it as it wasn't fulfilling my needs. Now, I walk alone, happily, and stop when and where I want. Not rushing from village to village, booking a bed ahead of time, trusting in God to provide, which he...

    Are You Lonely Going "Backwards"?

I have not felt lonely on my Camino, helped a girl from Texas who had no poles and a limited time to reach Santiago, gave her my 2 poles, some safety pins and off she went. Going to Zibiri and down the steep slopes on a rocky path, I was glad I did. I don't need the poles, had no idea why I...

Update, at 65 I made it over the Pyrenees, what a struggle! Currently in villafranco, cooking pasta sauce for the group that adopted me in orisson, all sleeping well right now. Sore feet , sometimes lonely in my thoughts, wonder I g what's in store for me. Faith in God, see what the plan is or...

    Getting Old.

Ah, a certain age, where you care less about appearance and more about personality and character. Being on the downside of 65, and doing my first Camino in a few days, I marvel at the fact I am healthy enough to walk with relative ease and aleve. To be retired and have the time to myself, with...

My first-time Camino: a review of the good, the bad, and the cows!

As I sit in the airport in Toronto my pack beside me I just know it is too heavy even after unloading things I wanted. But I figure I can get what I need on the road and if not..... oh well. I'm excited, apprehensive and in my mind I know the next 90 days will be a lot of reflection, discarding...
