    Coastal or Central

I think going from Porto on either route you chose you may need a few more days. Unless you skip some areas or plan doing around 30-35km per day.

JUNE 2023 northern : San Sebastián to Bilbao

I am planning that same route but I'd go early late March early April. I know there won't be many folks out there. Kinda lonely but I like it that way and I know there will be others. I did from Aviles to Santiago in March 2019 and it was nice only one cold rainy day.

Walking solo and not wanting to get lost!

You won’t get lost on central route. Even if you do you’ll get back on track without a major delay. I got lost once at the end but a jogger came by and put us right back on it. We actually were on the original route from years ago he told us but it had been changed to what it is today.

LIVE from the Camino @JohnLloyd on the Inglés

John, I must say your journey pretty much parallels mine which started on Feb. 25th. I got started around 2:15PM walking out of town. It took me an hour to fine the starting point. I walked to Nedra only to find the albergue closed then walked back to the same Hotel Kensington for the night...

The monastery in Sobrado is worth going to enjoy. Along with Lugo and it’s wall.

    Bus from Madrid to Ponferrada

Maybe try getting to Monte de Lemos by train and bus from there. I think there are other possibilities by train that get you close.

    Walking poles on flight

Well as a frugal pilgrim I have always preferred a walking stick I found along the way. I have seen many elderly Spanish residents walking along with them so I gave it a try. Works for me and I avoid airline hassles.

    February Camino

No there will be others but some of the albergues may be closed. It’s a good time to go not crowded and it may be cool but ok. I usually go in early March and enjoy it. I’d allow 45 days which is about 20km per day or 12 miles. Take more time if you want to do less miles/day. My last Camino was...
