The only thing that annoyed me during my first Camino were the useless mens underwear that I had purchased. Since then, I have walked another three Caminos wearing Lulu Lemon's "lockdowns" (real name). - they are supportive, non-irritating and dry quickly. They do however come in two leg...
Hello Mark. My wife and I walked from Irun to Villaviciosa last year commencing on 28 Apr and then turned onto the Primitivo to walk to Santiago de Compostela. We had walked three Caminos previously (the Camino Frances; the Via Podiensis and the Via Francigena, but only from Great St Bernard's...
My wife and I walked part of the Del Norte (Irun to Villaviciosa) and all of the Primitivo in May-June 2023. We didn't experience a lot of wet weather but the 3-4 days of heavy rain that we encountered made some parts of the Del Norte, that should have been relatively easy, very difficult e.g...
Buen Camino Patrick! My wife and I walked from Grand Saint Bernard's Pass to Rome in 2019, so we have a sense of what lies ahead of you. Like you, our Camino plans have been on hold for a while but we step off from Irun (for Gijon, then Ovedio to SdC) on 28 April.
Btw: I'm not sure of whether...
My wife and I had no choice in 2016 (March) but to turn off the Valcarlos and cross-grain until we came upon the Napoleon (which we knew to be closed). I say "no choice" because of the amount of snow clearing equipment that was working on the Valcarlos and because the operators were making no...
Hello from Australia. Just a quick note to say how much my wife (Anne) and I are enjoying your journey. We walked the Camino Frances in 2016 (starting in March) so we have an appreciation of the weather that you are experiencing. We've since walked the Via Podiensis (2018) and the Via...
Please do not do give up because your comments are exactly the kind of commonsense and succinct view that persons undertaking their first Camino, or walking a route that they haven't done before, need! That said, and at the risk of confusing non English speakers, I agree that it is a case of...
You might consider the Via Francigena, starting at Col Saint Bernard or at Lucca and heading south from there (all roads lead to Rome....). You will get 10 stunning days from either starting point.
My wife and I completed the same journey in 2018 commencing in August - the weather was a mixed bag but it did not detract from what was a wonderful experience. Even though we only had a limited grasp of French, we found the best maps were in Miam Miam Dodo guidebook. Buen Camino/bon journee!
My wife and I have walked three Caminos and we too enjoy the tranquility that comes with walking alone - we set off together each morning but after about 30 minutes we have settled into our own pace and are walking alone. We try to keep other in sight but at times that doesn't work, so we have...
My wife and I have walked three Caminos and have never had a blister - we can absolutely recommend "Hikers Wool" - it's simply carded merino wool so its still has the natural lanolin in it. As soon as you get a hint of a hot spot or start of a blister, simply tear a small piece of the fibre off...
Dear fellow pilgrims, having walked the Camino Frances (2016), Via Podiensis (2018) and the Via Francigena (from GSBP to Rome in 2019), my wife and I will be walking from Irun to Gijon (setting off on 26 April 2023) and then on to SdC via the Primitivo (arriving, hopefully, on 6 June 2023). In...
