• We are struggeling with some issues with images and attachments not loading on the forum. This is some left-over problems from the other day. We have back-ups of everything, so nothing is lost, we just need to link things up again so that it works. In short, we are working on it. Sorry! Ivar

    Gortex or No -Gortex Shoes

You are correct for most of the way. When we walked the CP Coastal in April/May 2022 there were parts of the boardwalk that had sand drifted to the top of the posts holding the rope railings, about 3+ feet in 2 or three areas for about 10 feet in each section. All in all not much. We just...

    Discount train card for pensioners

like so many security checkpoints it is not consistent. Departing from Madrid we only needed to show the digital pictures but departing Santiago they wanted the paper cards, which was easy enough since they just printed them at the ticket counter upon request. So I guess it is determined by...

Of course you must be too young. I know the Renfe site can be a little, shall we say wonky. It doesn't really display in the languages you select since they do seem to post "picture" or PDF content which is never translated so you get some translations on a page and some not. Fortunate for me...

I used my amex at the Renfe site without notifying anyone. Amex doesn't require notification, I spoke with them direct years ago, but Visa and Mastercard like to know where you are traveling. Not sure about the others.

We did get our first card at a train station. We renewed them on line. The link is buried in the Renfe site but this should get you there: Renfe Senior discount information

Odd. I have never had any problems with Renfe accepting my credit cards. Luck of the draw I guess.

    Gortex or No -Gortex Shoes

I am sure you can get as many opinions as there are people. So all I can say is I choose not to wear gortex . My last camino, October 23, I wore Hoka Speedgoat 5 NON gortex. It rained for 7 days straight. I thought I might need fins and snorkel. But after walking through water to my ankles...

    Discount train card for pensioners

Now that you mention it I’m not sure. I had purchased cards a few years ago and renewed them online, after they had expired, but didn’t try to get a brand new card online.

I got myTarjeta Dorada on line several months before I left home and used them to purchase my tickets as soon as they were available, on line. Great discount and easy to do. Oh and I did get a three year Tarjeta Dorada card so I won't need to renew them every time.

    What's a Slow Walker?

We also have short legs being vertically challenged. On our first camino we finally found someone going slower than us.

What should I do about calluses?

Since you already have a relationship with a podiatrist, and you are "concerned" that the calluses may bother you I have a simple suggestion. Before taking any action, walk 10-15 miles a day for 5 days straight, with pack if you can. This should be enough for your feet/body getting accustomed...

    Electrolytes

As most, I am an Aquarius fan. I also bring a couple of tubes of Nuun tablets to drop in a water bottle but never in my water bladder in my pack. The Nuun tablets can leave a residue that is difficult to remove from the bladder water system. If you are inclined to chew gum there is an...

    Electrolytes

Aquarius was originally created in Japan. It was purchased by the Coca Cola company a few years ago and is marketed in most of the world in cans and bottles. Unfortunately it is not available in the USA. I do like it much better than our Gatorade, it is less sweet and much lighter. My go to...

How to get from Ourense to Sarria by Renfe

The transfer to bus changes as they complete sections of their project and begin others. In September when we bought our tickets there was no mention of bus, but when we traveled in October a bus was inserted. Frankly I was worried but really for no reason. They handled it very good with no...
