St Cuthbert's Way - a short Pilgrimage route in the UK

Walking St Cuthbert’s Way mid October should be fine, maybe a bit wet at times! Walked the first 12.5 miles today in the pouring rain, there is no perfect time! Living in Melrose at the start of the route, I often walk the first sections of it. In 2013 we walked it to Lindisfarne (Holy Isle)...

Best Travel Insurance for the Camino Frances

I've used Explorer Travel Insurance for longer Camino trips and have always found them very reasonable. My normal bank annual travel insurance does not cover me for more than 30 days at any one time.

Camino de Madrid or Via de la Plata April/May 2022?

I walked the VdelP in 2019 starting in Seville on the 28 March and finished in SdeC after 40 days of walking following the Camino Sanabres from Granja de Moreruela. I think there would be no problems walking this as a first camino, with a little bit of planning before and as you go. The website...

    Camino Portugues Central

Amigos da Montanha Pilgrims Hostel I have stayed here twice once in 2016 and again in 2019. Excellent modern hostel, staff very helpful. Just before the bridge crossing into the town.

How many pairs of shoes did you go through?

I have walked all my Caminos so far in the same pair of boots. Scarpa Delta GTX Activ. I am hoping there is another long Camino in them! About every 1500 - 2000 Km they get sent away for a complete new sole, I tend to wear more of the outside parts of the sole, so never get much more than 2000...

Feature in Guardian about Camino da Geira

I notice on the camino website debragaasantiago.com there is a guidebook published in English for this route. Does anyone know how to get this and have it delivered to the UK. Thanks.

How do you wear a hat with a backpack?

For years I have used a Tilley hat and as you can see from the photograph, the natural wide brim takes up a curved shape back to front and does not interfere at all with the rucksack. The hat is a TH4 Tilley hemp hat, which has the extra large brim. Think they have stopped making this model now...

Icebreaker Merino Shirts - Now a Blend - Alternatives?

I've been using ISOBAA 100% merino tops for a while now. You can buy in a range of weights from 150 gm upwards in long or short sleeve etc. They appear to wear well and great for walking. I buy from a company called SPORTPURSUIT and from their website they deliver to lots of countries.

This is my favorite creation made while On Camino!

A couple of pencil sketches. The first on the way to Finnesterre and the second on the Via de la Plata.

    Camino Finisterre Patch

I picked up this patch at one of the stalls near the lighthouse at Finnesterre. It has Km 0.0 on it which I liked as the post was near by.

Shifting from Garmin GPS to phone — step 1

Like you, I only wanted a system to check if I was not sure where I was, not given me directions all the time. I use map.me and download open street maps for Spain or parts of it, depending which Camino. Open street maps are free and very accurate and you can zoom in to lots of details in cities...
