I'm also hoping that in the next couple of years the other caminos will become popular. I'm wondering if maybe there will be more pilgrim albergues during June and also many more pilgrims...I'll just keep waiting for more input. Thanks!
Hello,
I'm contemplating the Via de la Plata (again...I go back and forth). I would begin on June 1 in Sevilla. I've already walked the camino frances so I (kind of) know what I'm in for. Would it be possible to walk 25K a day the first week on VdlP? Later on I'll be able to manage 30-35K...
Cecilia,
You're doing the Via de la Plata? Please keep me updated on how busy this camino is with pilgrims. I might do it this summer. I had kind of ruled it out thinking that I'd be out there all alone and that it would be very solitary. Please keep me updated!

Sorry to not have been keeping up! Thank you all for the wonderful advice. I will definitely check out the Miam Miam Dodo to get an idea of where the municipal gites are. I also feel better knowing that it will be possible to buy some food along the way. Hey...if that French lady...
Thanks for all the info, Margaret. Under another heading I had asked pilgrims about buying a cell phone. Did you take your own, buy one at a supermarket or just make calls from tourist offices?
Thanks!

I do remember reading somewhere that pilgrims would have to buy food for 3 days in some cases on the Le Puy route. I will definitely always have emergency food on me. I think I'm going to give the Le Puy route a shot, keeping in mind that some nights I might have to go ahead and eat at the...
I've been discussing this topic with a couple of pilgrims and I would like to open the discussion up to more. Last year when I did the Camino frances from SJPP-Stgo. I spent around e10-12/day. I believe that it is considerably less than the average pilgrim. I only ate the menu de peregrinos...
I would like to thank all of you once again for your input. Cecilia, I wish that we were going around the same time. We could have begun together.
Buen Camino,
:D Kelly
All very good points and great information. I think that we all have our personal Caminos so nobody should get attacked for being of another opinion. Taking all of these different opinions into account is really helping me to sort out what I should do. Pilgims are awesome and there is nothing...
Thanks for your help. I couldn't find info. anywhere on this topic and I just knew that if I asked on this forum, someone would give me an idea.

We are all so passionate about our Caminos that it is so easy to pull in other pilgrims! I'm just going to let the darn Camino decide for me and see what happens. I have faith that wherever I end up, I was supposed to be there.

If I can get a flight to Paris, I'll start in Le Puy. If I can't, I'll either head to Samport and start from there or I'll head down to the Via de la Plata. I'll just let the Camino decide for me. If the going gets rough I can always turn around and go somewhere!

Hi Lillian,
Last summer I ran into an American girl just after Burgos who had attempted the Via de la Plata. She said that she had started it, found no one, then ended up sleeping in a shelter without walls with some random man. She freaked out and came to the Camino frances. That's kind of...
I'm starting to lean more towards France. I think that there will be more pilgrims on the Le Puy route. I'm really social and I think that I'll get lonely on the Via de la Plata. Br. David's persuasive writing is really convincing! I better get a move on before I start wrinkling up like a...
I really wish that I could have participated in your documentary! I will be beginning the Camino at the end of May. I hiked it last year, but had so much fun that I'm doing it again.
Make sure you send your doc to the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in Missoula, Montana. That's where I'm...
