    SJPP is Packed with Pilgrims.

Any updates on accommodation availability during the first few days of the Camino Frances? In particular, is it still difficult to get something on the day in Roncesvalles, Zubiri or Larrasoana?

    Roncesvalles Albergue

In case anyone else has this issue, I was asked to email the Roncesvalles Albergue my credit card details. Though I usually make a point to not email my credit card details, I did in this case, and I've been charged for the night that I'll be there (including dinner and breakfast). I've...

I'll be starting from SJPP on 5 October, and using the Find Penguins app to record daily updates. Dean's Camino Frances (https://findpenguins.com/0pdxbqwrhj0ui/trip/camino-frances) Nothing there yet, but will start posting once my pack is final, before flying out of Perth, Western Australia...

Likewise. I leave SJPP on 5 October, with accommodation booked at Beilari in SJPP and Roncesvalles, but nothing after that. Fingers crossed! Buen Camino :)

    Lost from Leon

A valid point to make. Any endeavour is laden with inherent risk, which needs to be tempered with information that permits us to each make our own informed decisions. That's what I love about this forum.

    Lost from Leon

You're on your own journey Nancy, and I applaud your courage to share your experience. It's something that you could have just kept to yourself for any number of reasons (embarrassment, personal growth), but you've chosen to allow us to benefit from your experience, and I for one will keep this...

Who might be in Burgos - October 17, 2019?

Hi @C clearly, My path will take me to Burgos very close to that date, so would be worth penciling a vino tinto!

I love the sentiment of this! Think I'll carry a copy of this with me.

    Aussie leaving SJPP 5 October

From what I can see, the last bus for Bayonne leaves Biarritz Airport at 9pm, just when I'm landing. I'm thinking that it's going to be a taxi.

Security of backpack contents during flights

In my experience most baggage handlers are genuinely hard working and not interested in pilfering items from baggage. However, those that will are opportunistic, and where the traveller makes it harder for them to casually inspect baggage for potential pilferage the opportunity doesn't arise...

Security of backpack contents during flights

Having spent 15 years in the aviation industry in Australia, I'm pretty familiar with the likelihood of bags being searched or tampered with in this region. However, having not been to Europe yet, there's an unknown that I'm yet to experience.

Security of backpack contents during flights

I'll be keeping a few items in a small Sea to Summit dry bag, which will include things that I want to either use during flight (phone, cords, Camino Village to Village Guide), or keep on my person (e.g. Passport and itinerary hard copies). I'm of the view that the Qatar Airways aircraft...

Security of backpack contents during flights

I won't be using hiking poles, and won't be taking any sharp items (from what I can see this only includes safety pins). Any restricted cabin baggage items can be purchased upon my arrival in France. In the event that Qatar Airways staff feel that my pack is too large for cabin baggage, then...
