How empty is the Lisbon section?

Interesting, we started walking September 13 and had loads of company between Lisbon and Santarem. What a difference a week or two can make.

How empty is the Lisbon section?

Have walked Lisbon to SDC twice in the last two years - love Portugal. Last year we found it much busier than 2017 and it got busier as we walked. Having said that, the numbers are perfect in my opinion. You will not always find an Albergue between Lisbon and Porto but the Pensions and small...

Best Salomon shoes for Camino Frances

The no Gortex dry quickly, the Gortex version will get wet if it really pours and will take forever to dry.

Best Salomon shoes for Camino Frances

I wore the Speedcross my first Camino and had to replace them 500k into the walk when the mid sole collapsed. I’m not a heavy woman so not sure why this happened but replaced them with Merrill. Merrill Moab got me through two Portuguese Caminos and have purchased them for my next Camino...

Achilles Novice (with a KM concern) and Coastal Section Advice

Just finished the Portuguese Camino, Lisbon to Finisterre. We walked the coast from Matosinhos to Caminha then back on to the Central. Enjoyed all three legs you mention. We stayed in Valenca thinking it would be much quieter than Tui, the starting point for the 100k walkers. We loved the...

    Lined or unlined jogging pants

Lined pants would probably be too heavy to dry quickly. I took a light merino wool base layer in case of cold however never used them. Walked in September 2015.

Which part/s would you skip if you only had 26 days and would walk the average amt per day

Each part of the Camino is beautiful for many different reasons. Personally I wouldn't skip the trek over the Pyrenees because of both the beauty and the challenge. If I had to make the tough decision I think it would be the Meseta -- probably the mentally toughest part of the walk for me...

    Camino in September 2016

Walked this past September and found it very warm at times. 37 degrees walking into Pamplona. Great way to celebrate your 70th! We celebrated our retirement and 40th anniversary. Astorga is a great place to meet. Your husband will have lots to do if he arrives ahead of you. Enjoy!
