I just used RideWithGPS app for the Portuguese Camino. I was able to download and bookmark each stage ahead of time. I had to create an account but it was free.
The app really helped solve some ambiguity when markers were absent or ambiguous. The used it everyday, especially to see road vs dirt...
Glad to hear there is plenty of infrastructure. I am so ready to go! I start walking with my husband next Friday May 26th and thanks to the forum I know all about the scaffolding around the Sé, where to find that first arrow, etc. I speak Brazilian Portuguese and can’t wait to be speaking...
Guess I shouldn’t have said lack, but lesser. I’ve walked the Frances twice. I just do not expect to see the same experience on this route. I didn’t know if bars and churches would have stamps. I wasn’t able to find accommodations everywhere in hostels.
I like Patagonia’s Barely bra, but I am small. I bring at least 2. I DO very much prefer a sports bra for the Camino and all hiking. No bulky band, no sweaty overly padded cups. Although beware the uniboob, for sure.
And I never have to put on a “show” to get dressed. I sleep in bra and...
Staying with the nuns was a highlight of our meseta journey. I highly recommend it. The meseta has a beauty all its own. My husband and I found that being in those small towns, with not much to do, encouraged deeper connection and interaction with other pilgrims. We made great friendships and...
You can purchase a box like this at the Post Office near the cathedral. I have done this twice so far. You can easily fit 2-3 pairs of collapsing poles and your jackknife etc. just need a little bit of tape and a pen. Iberia did “misplace” my box for several days last time, though. On my last...
A somewhat unrelated question but given the lack of infrastructure geared towards the Camino de Santiago on the Lisbon to Porto route, where are the best places to look for stamps each day? I have read that the churches don’t tend to be open and there are very few pilgrim hostels.
My husband and I are heading out from Lisbon on Friday 5/26. I have booked at VIP Executive Santa Iria but that is kind of out of the way (not to mention expensive) if we're still walking the old route. Anybody have suggestions for alternate lodging?
I’ve never needed the pack cover when using the poncho, and like others, I use dry sacks (with window) to organize my stuff inside my backpack and keep it dry.
One really useful tip I gathered was for the sleeping bag compartment. If your sleeping bag is at the bottom, like with my Osprey pack...
I second looking for an English tour. We booked our tour the day before (I believe), but my companions, who did not speak Spanish, didn't get too much out of it.
I have two pairs of Black Diamond Women’s z poles. The documentation that came with the poles consists of cartoons only and I can’t decode instructions that answer my question.
Should I be collapsing my poles when they are not being used? Am I in any way potentially damaging them by leaving...
I’ve used safety pins to attach the patches to strap loops on the back top of my Osprey pack, where I have also attached lapel pins. They are off right now because I had moved them to another pack..
For October 2021 I was able to book Casa Navarro via booking.com. It was very pleasant. The only downside was no specific facility to wash laundry other than the sink in the room.
Like another jouffroy47 mentioned I like Royal Robbins. They have some very nice patterned travel shirts that look classier than Colombia, with all of the right properties.
