For me, the walk from Lisbon to Porto (2016) was the only Camino I did not profoundly enjoy and would not recommend. There is a lot of road walking and many Portuguese drivers are not mindful of pedestrians.

If you have Google Maps, you can download two gpx files from Traildino (free) and you will have the route clearly marked on your phone. I can post the link if needed.
It is true that the albergue in Petrola has no shower or hot water. It is in a storage/work room attached to the church and is clean, though somewhat cluttered, but you will need to settle for a cold-water wash cloth cleansing.
Sorry for the delay in responding. For some reason, I can't seem to access these forums on my iPhone. We stayed in a hotel that was listed in a Sureste Guide that someone gave me in Alicante, but I forget the name. Leaving town was no problem, but mainly because I have the gpx file on Google...
There is an albergue in Petrola where I will stay tonight, but I have read somewhere that it has only cold water and that there is no shower. I'll try to report back later.
Note: the albergues in Orito and in Montealegre are exceptional. Villegas is nice too but a bit small for three...
I stopped by the Friends this evening and had the very good fortune to meet JLWV in person! It was truly a gracious and warm welcome. I was surprised how active the office was, with quite a number of people to obtain information on the Camino(s).
