    Camino travel literature suggestions

I've read a few this year via Kindle and I've been disappointed with all of them. It's hard to find a book from an author I can relate to as too many go off into partisan politics, pedantic whinges, bad language, repetitively boring and lengthy descriptions of evening drinking every day, soppy...

    Camino Primitivo shoes in July

I walked the Primitivo in July and it was wet and cold with morning temperatures of 4 degrees, flooded muddy paths between Salas and Tineo and driving cold rain and wind on the Hospitales. I think it would be wiser to prepare for any type of weather on the Primitivo, even in July.

LIVE from the Camino The Adventures of Dani7 on the Camino Francés

For a delicious mea in Astorga, try cocido maragato, best served at Casa Maragata 1 (less touristy than CM 2).

The isolation of the Camino de Levante

Great advice to try the rabbit paella in Valencia. It's delicious. I Iove rabbit myself and used to breed them just for lunch and dinner. There's nothing quite like a tasty rabbit, particularly on Sundays.

The Camino is calling me…early planning stage questions

So what's the Camino calling you, then?

Blister under crease of big toe

Whatever you do, do NOT attempt to drain it. The best solution would be to rest for a week, Failing that, ensure it is bandaged by a wrapping of at least tenfold (standard dispensary material). If you really must walk, do so lightly and minimally. If you are of the sterner type, ignore the above...

LIVE from the Camino HELP!! Nowhere to stay tomorrow

In Germany, there are still many camino routes with barely a soul. One can walk all day and not encounter another person. For all those people that want total personal time, come to Germany and enjoy the sausage, beer, air, nature and camino life with no people.

Walking at 4 am. Under a full moon?

I've done a night Camino on the meseta. Basically agreed with some of the Camino Family to sleep very early evening and leave at 10pm so we 'closed' our dorm room and slept till then. It was beautiful, cold and very different after getting away from the said Family. The most amazing thing was...

Pilgrim stabbed and attacked at knife point after Sacavem, was able to escape

Sorry to read this. This is a Camino lesson that is very harsh indeed. When I walked from Lisbon I thought there were a few areas on the Portugues that didn't feel safe or quite right. That whole section of about 3 hours from Sacavem until the main road before the boardwalk part felt a bit...

    OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Booking.com cancellations

I have obviously cancelled my Summer camino and all bookings. I cancelled the refundable bookings easily, which amounted to the vast majority of nights. Of the only two non-refundable bookings I made on booking.com, I was very kindly given a full refund on a booking made for El Capricho de...

    COVID New start dates?

It sounds from this article that it will be at least October before the Camino will be possible again. Summer 2020 appears to be 100% not going to happen, according to Macron...

    Flybe

This is really sad. Flybe was a fabulous way to quickly get to Devon without having to go through Heathrow and take First Great Western or National Express. It always worked out cheaper to fly to Paris or Amsterdam then take Flybe to Exeter. Sorry for all the staff and the knock on for non Flybe...

Compact Camino Frances - how to choose which etapas to walk vs bus

I didn't like the older stage from Santovenia through Ibeas, along the N129, nor the later more popular way along the N1 once Villafria was reached. However, the newer way with a slight detour is really lovely. Everyone now knows the river route, but with just a small detour to the monastery of...

How do YOU book your ticket to Spain?

Last year I thought I had lost a lot of money when Jet went bust and people who had booked via a third party were reporting they couldn't get their money back. Fortunately, I had booked through Etihad as my outward flight was to be Jet and return by Etihad and I got a full refund. I'd agree that...

Compact Camino Frances - how to choose which etapas to walk vs bus

It sounds like you are quite young and as you live in Spain doing what many people have done would surely be feasible. That is, why don't you get yourself to St jean or Roncesvalles and start walking until the end of your available time and then at some point in the future, just continue from...
