Solo Walking Journey from Porto, September 2022

Walked from Porto to Santiago in September 2021 via the Coastal Route. While the coast was absolutely beautiful, I was frustrated by the walk. Having done the Frances in both 2018 & 2019, the "feel" of the walk was not very Camino-ish until after Redonela when we joined the Central Route. My...

Planning for Camino Portugese Coastal Sept - Oct 2022

While I will agree that you don't NEED an outside company, I'll submit a contrarian opinion. I've used Fresco Tours (www.frescotours.com) three times (2 Self-Guided, 1 Full-Service). Using a tour company increases your cost some but it is one-stop shopping. You can let them do all the...

Offering a university course, suggestions for topics to include?

Not all "long walks" are pilgrimages but all long walks have value. People do a Camino for thousands of different reasons. Every reason is valid, it just is likely different that the next persons. I did my first Camino at 64. Doing the miles was actually easier than dealing with the question...

Tracking forum members? (Leaving Wed. & Loved ones 'freaking out')

We just finished (Ponferrada to Santiago) and my wife used POLAR STEPS. It followed you via GPS even with the phone in Airplane Mode to save battery. It allows you to add photos to specific days and to write a summary of the day. It worked quite well for us. The APP is free. Their business...

We will be starting in Ponferrada and have a few needs. What store are you referencing. Thanks.

    Camino walking distance calculator

I worked with www.forwalk.org and built a custom map of my route which included our chosen stopping points. It showed all services along the way, distance and elevations. I was very pleased with the results.

    Mosquitos, ticks, snakes, etc.

I'm curious if pilgrims are bothered by mosquitos, ticks and similar bugs or snakes OR is this simply an American issue?
