The Camino walker and the biker. 🤣

I fall into the undecided. Being an Australian, my instinct is to move to the left, which in Europe would be into the path of the bike. Sometimes don't have time to correct my mistake and have to hope the cyclists accepts my appology.

Bikers, please give walking pilgrims warning!

I too have had several close calls from cyclists, but it was partly my fault. When they did give a warning, I would instinctively move to the left, as I have been doing all of my life in Australia. Sometimes the cyclists thought I was deliberately blocking them, but they always accepted my...

Thanks for the kitchen scale tip!

I too am fanatical about pack weight. I pack what I need and make sure I weigh my pack at the airport. In the past, I have had some difficulty getting my body weight up to 10 times my pack weight.;)

Which is the flattest major Camino de Santiago route?

There are a couple of things to consider, number 1 would be how far do you want to walk. Some people on this forum would consider 600k a short Camino, while a lot of first timers think that the minimum of 100k to get the compostella is a very long way. The other consideration, which most...

    Where to start in France?!

I agree with backpack45 that the walk from Geneva is fantastic. Depending on your time limit you can walk to Le Puy, then pick up the rest of the French way through to Conques and beyond. French is helpful, but I found the people to be very friendly and helpful, particularly if you at least...

Hiking from LePuy in April. Advice needed!

Being from Australia. naturally I wore merino, long sleeve merino shirt, light .wieght, but warm merino jumper, then a lightweight rain/wind jacket

Hiking from LePuy in April. Advice needed!

I walked that same route in April / May 2013. We had quite a lot of snow around the Aubrac region, in fact it started snowing lightly on our second day and continued for about a week. It was not unpleasant though as we had the right gear. The only time I got cold was walking into Nasbinals...

    Elegant lodging in Santiago

I find it interesting and amusing the way some of these posts take many twists and turns before the moderators step in. I hope it continues even though I don't have an elephant, only cows and sheep.

    Murray to Mountains Rail Trail

The Sherrin variety of the magpies song is very pleasant too, especially in September. (Footy finals time for non believers)

Sounds good Bob, keep us posted while on your walk. As a firefighter, it is good to see that you are going to be monitoring the Vic Emergency web site, however, please remember that your eyes and nose are probably the best early warning signal, particularly in that area where phone signal is...

Do top bunks stop bed bugs?

Even though I don't think sleeping on the top bunk will stop bed bugs, I think it is a good rumor to spread. Sleeping on the top bunk has a lot of advantages, the main one being that it leaves the bottom bunk free for me.

    Murray to Mountains Rail Trail

Live is not meant to be easy! If you take your time, rest when needed and enjoy the scenery, it is quite manageable. If you do not regularly ride, it would be difficult. I don't like the idea of an electric bike, too much to go wrong when you are away from help. I don't like your taxi idea...

    Murray to Mountains Rail Trail

Hi Bob, I haven't walked the trail, but I have cycled it. It was an easy 2 day ride with a stopover in Beechworth. When I did it, there were not a lot of people either cycling or walking, except around Beechworth and Myrtleford, where there were a lot of families enjoying the fresh air and...
