Reassurance
Personally I would leave the camping mat at home all the refugios have mattresses or gym mats of some kind or other. Maybe replace it with a lightweight sleeping bag - in case you get cold nights. Make sure you have a small torch as the lights are switched off at night. Also spare...
Travel
Artemis remember that flights to UK might be considerably cheaper from US than into France - you can then get very cheap flights into smaller airports in France with http://www.ryanair.com or http://www.easyjet.com from the UK

September
I did it at aged 56 two years ago, starting in September. Every day, but one, was sunny in the upper 60's absolutely perfect walking weather all the way from SJPP to Finisterre - Do not miss Finisterre - for me it was the highlight of the trip. Walking barefoot along the beach and...
Sleeping bag
A light weight two season one is pretty essential IMHO Some refugios you are sleeping in have only gym mats with no bedding at all! I used a Vango Venom 150 weighs only 650gm and packs into a roll 12cm dia 26cm long.
Weight is all important I kept my pack to less than 7kg and...
'crossing the pyrenees'
I did it 2 years ago when I was 56. Didnt find it to difficult at all, If you are worried there are a couple of refugios on the way up outside SJPP.
BTW lighten your load! I took 7kg - it was plenty.

Capes
Almost all outdoor shops have them. They are called Ponchos. I bought mine in Open Air for £30 last year. They are very useful but easily tear in high winds. Get some mini caberinas so you can stop it flapping.

Blogging with Mobile phone
Yes I made the blog with my mobile phone. My phome has a UK SIM card so I was 'roaming' in Spain. The cost was about 15 Euro per megabyte. Each picture is about 50K so that means you get approx 20 pictures for 15Euro
I didnt use the internet cafes as it is...
Photo blogging on the Camino
I posted entries around twice a day to my photo blog using a Treo phone. There is almost 100% cellular coverage, including portable base stations! on the SJPP to Finisterre route.
It was very expensive as I found out on my return :-(
The phlog can be found at...
Camino Walking Times
Hi I'm 57 and walked the Camino from SJPP to Santiago in 22 days including one no walking day in Leon. I had perfect weather the days were long but not terribly ardous. My backpack was about 6kgs. Main disadvantage is that you won't make many friends as the majority walk...
