    Patches on my backpack?

We used superglue to attach ours to our Osprey packs (different models than yours but same fabric). Four years layer they're still there. No apparent effect on the packs.

Camino de Santiago de Gran Canaria experience

Just to clarify, it was 1700 m over the two days. About 600 m on day one and 1100 m on day two. Still challenging!

Camino de Santiago de Gran Canaria experience

My wife and I finished the Camino de Gran Canaria yesterday (Dec 13, 2021). This is to give some impressions and information from our experience. There are other good posts offering perspectives on this Camino, including a recent one by Steven Baggs (Steve you have a very understanding wife!)...

    Let's talk waist packs!

My wife and I both use Arcteryx Mantis I fanny packs. Best piece of kit we have. Perfect to carry passport, credencial, phone, wallet, lipgloss, pens, whatever bits you like to have at hand.

LIVE from the Camino Norte vs Frances - Yikes!

I was not judging. Just observing the difference from 2019. Each to their own Camino.

LIVE from the Camino Paq Peregrino - our experience

We're travelling long-term so needed to ship suitcases from Madrid to await us in Santiago. Here's a few things we learned for next time. 1. Madrid airport post office is temporarily closed. We had to go to a small post office near our hotel. They had never shipped pilgrims' luggage before and...

    Compostelas for Dummies

There are other threads on the new Compostela system. I didn't find one that explained it simply and clearly. (If there is one I apologize. Feel free to delete this thread Ivar.) I will try explain so even dummies like me can understand. 1. There is a placard with a QR code outside the front...

    Camino passport question

It's not a real rigorous process. When they issue the compostela (at least when we got ours today) they just want your starting place and date filled in and your name spelled correctly.

LIVE from the Camino Norte vs Frances - Yikes!

We started the Camino del Norte on August 5th. We were spoiled to mostly have the trails to ourselves for 30 days. There were batches of pilgrims at certain points. Many Spaniards walked for a week or 10 days from Bilbao, Santander or Gijon. In general though there were not that many walking...

Starting Camino Del Norte on Tuesday, 29th June 2021

Accommodations are tight right now but by mid-September most Spaniards will be back to work so should be a lot better. Many albergues open (but less capacity) but some, especially in out-of-the-way towns, are closed. Relatively few pilgrims, mostly Spanish. Some bars/restaurants in smaller...

First time / Del Norte August 11 / Simple question

As of Aug 5th still no restrictions on the bridge. If nothing else it’s worth walking over just for the patisserie at the French end of the bridge!

First time / Del Norte August 11 / Simple question

We‘re six days into the Norte today. Getting stamps has been a bit of a hassle. Many churches have limited opening times because of covid or have put the stamps away because of fear of transmission. Hotels and bars are kind of hit-and-miss but so far we’ve had no trouble getting at least one...

LIVE from the Camino Day 2 on Norte

We’ve finished day 2 on the Norte. Saw very few pilgrims in Irun. Walked with one pilgrim to San Sebastian and saw only two others. Sat for an hour having leisurely lunch at Pasaia. Didn’t see a single pilgrim walk by to the ferry. Saw a few more pilgrims today from San Sebastian. Maybe 15...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Why you can’t do online check in:

Our Air Canada flight said the same thing last week, ie we could check-in online 24 hours in advance. We did. However, no boarding passes were provided. Only a “confirmation of check-in”. Boarding passes were only issued at the counter after inspection of our Spanish entry code and proof of...

    Crossing from France

We are in Irun today. We had spare time so walked over to Henday. French police are stopping traffic heading into France checking for Covid compliance. They did not stop pedestrians. The Spanish were not doing any checks of people heading into Spain. Vehicles and pedestrians passed freely. Don’t...
