Extra security at the cathedral in Santiago at noon today. Does anyone know what was going on?

We arrived in Santiago on Wednesday and took a last stroll past the cathedral today before we have to fly out. The plaza was way more packed than we have seen and there was a huge police presence. This was during the noon pilgrim mass and appeared likely there was someone of importance inside...

Wondering how busy the trail is

We started in Sarria yesterday. One would, I believe, expect this to be the busiest section of the Camino at a time that would likely be more busy than when you plan to travel. We did book ahead well in advance and are traveling very slowly, but have been surprised that it has been much less...

Holding my breath in L.A. !

That's great news. Unfortunately, we fly out on 9/6 so it looks like it is going to be a last minute update for us. We are fully vaccinated. Maybe we will schedule testing for 48 hours prior just to do everything we can to cover our bases. After that, we will just hope for the best.

Sleeping bag needed if staying in hotels rather than alberques?

Will probably take a sleeping bag liner as emergency back up. Only a 2 week adventure in early September. Hopefully will not actually freeze. 🤪

Sleeping bag needed if staying in hotels rather than alberques?

Will be walking from September 7-19 and due to COVID, have decided to stay in hotels rather than albergues. I am thinking I might not need to bring a sleeping bag. I wonder what experienced pilgrims think.

Trying to find a thread with advice about cell phones

Thank you! I was searching cell phone and not getting what I wanted. It looks like "phones" would have been the better search. Also thank you for the SIM card information.

Trying to find a thread with advice about cell phones

Thank you. That is pretty much my plan, but just feel nervous about accidental charges. Do you just turn your phone on airplane mode in while you are walking? Turn off cellular data? I would love to be able to use my GPS tracking on my phone to log my route, but is there a way to do that...

Trying to find a thread with advice about cell phones

I apologize in advance, because I know this topic has been discussed thoroughly in the past. I cannot find any threads on the various ways people keep in touch with home while on the Camino. If someone can point me to an established thread, that would be great. I am American. Verizon is my...

    Class of 2020

Hello all! I have been lurking around the forum for a while and dreaming of walking my first Camino "someday," thinking it would be many years from now, if ever. My daughter and I have talked about doing it together, but life is busy and 2 separate lives are even more challenging to...
