Five years after writing this post, I am still humbled by the reports of litter pickers and pledges. I walk the Camino Portuguese in three weeks time with three other and they have no idea that that I'll be handing them a bag on the first morning and be asking them to fill it! :)
This will of...
Hi everyone....apologies on my disappearance, I have been busy hiking in various countries around the world and have not received alerts to posts on this thread.
I would say that a lot of questions sent my way have already been answered and your Caminos already walked but to answer cclara's...
I found my secret to be (and the secret I pass on to fellow pilgrims) is...
Thin, coolmax liner sock - close to the skin, wicks moisture away from the skin
Mid weight merino wool hiking sock - Still allows moisture to wick away but gives you warmth and layering
The two layers together rub...
Also, if you DO want to take a small simple phone that is unlocked in Europe for emergencies then let me know and I'll happily gift you one. Don't go spending hundreds of dollars/pounds signing up to a new phone....save the money for more important things :)

Hi everyone,
Annelise, you're right, the top loading of these packs can be a pain, I guess I just got used to the routine. Besides, for the lightweight hiker, I guess it is thought that you wouldn't have too many items anyway. In my experience, once I unpacked the tent, put all my clothes...
Hi Genevieve,
I walked from SSJP to Finisterra and Muxia departing exactly the same date as you back in the holy year of 2010 and here is what I experienced.
Everything was calmer (having walked in the busy summer of 2007) so you never felt the rush of fellow pilgrims.
The travel to SSJP was...
I noticed that there were many requests for gear recommendations on these forums and so I thought I would share my experience with the Osprey Exos 48 litre pack as a possible choice for your own camino.
The link below take you to my dropbox where you can download a long, honest review with...

Hi Gerard,
I mean, you could try what you suggest but if your body and your feet were good the last time, why risk a change?
It's difficult to find Merrell Moab mid boots WITHOUT waterproof, especially in shops. You , may have to order direct.
If its 70% aesthetics and 30% confidence of your...
Hi obinjatoo,
I wrote a long post back in 2010 about this, I would love to hear about your project.

Hi CaminoKris,
I've been away from this topic for a while but saw you asked me specifically so I'll try and advise.
First of all, May is a great time to go, not too wet hopefully (but who knows with European weather these days?!).
I would look towards a soft, mid boot as the heavy duty ones...
