    Pilgrim "customs"?

My most emotional moment on the Camino was leaving a stone from my mother's collection below the Cruz de Ferro. She died in 2015 and I walked the Camino in 2017. Because I had been having nightmares about her last few months, I left the stone and verbally left the nightmares behind. Happily, I...

Walking the Camino Frances multiple times - why?

I don't get it. With all the wonderful things to see and do in the world, why would you limit yourself to the same thing over and over, The world is big and beautiful. Experience the difference.

    Disrespected my feet

My foot experience was rather severe. Because I am stubborn, I continued walking (with lots of anti-inflammatories on board) even though I had severe pain in both feet. I thought it was just tendinitis, so pushed on, finally giving up on my pack (sent it ahead) in Astorga. When I arrived home...

I'm from Canada and had a Deuter pack and my partner had a Osprey (both light weight models).

    Jesús y María

Get there early as it fills up fast. Don't plan to get a lot of sleep with 50+ people on one floor and 50+ on the floor above. Very close bunks, so very noisy. Co-ed showers (very small). Nice inner courtyard and very central.

    Spanish SIM Card

I was told you will be charged roaming charges with anything but a Spanish SIM card. Bought mine in Pamplona as that was the first place that had a company to buy it from. I used What's App to communicate with my husband (in Canada) on a daily basis. Worked fine most of the time. A few times...

3rd time on Camino. . .struggling to decide. . .

Personally, I never understand repeating an experience. It's never the same and I have always regretted ruining a previously great experience. On saying that, I walked last year in Sept/Oct. It was very busy so had difficulty finding beds without pre-booking, however there were many days that...

What happens when you can't find a place to sleep?

My cousin and I started in St. JPdP September 3rd 2017. It was a very busy time. We had booked the hotel in Roncesvalles and were glad we did as pilgrims staying in the alberque lined up for over an hour and then got a spot on the floor in some other building. The next day we walked to Zubiri...

My first-time Camino: a review of the good, the bad, and the cows!

I did it last year in September/October. We had great weather with only 3 or 4 days of light rain. I am 70 and weigh 110 pounds. My only advice, since it was impossible to have a pack that weighed 11 pounds, if it gets too heavy and your feet start to become too painful, have one of the many...

    Sarria scams

We had a supposed boyfriend/girlfriend combo tell us they were retracing their Camino and needed money to get back to St. Jean. Seemed a little weird so we declined giving them money. They said they were from one of the eastern European countries.
