I did Le Puy - Pamplona 6 years ago, and I know what you mean by "survival French", that's about my level. I had very few social days before reaching St. Jean. Most pilgrims were French - and talking to one another. But I understand a lot more than what I'm able to express, so I learned a lot...
I may solve the transportation problem by just riding the bike back home, I'm sure I can bring it on the ferry back to Oslo. Or I might find a long distance bus. :)
I think that walking the whole distance will be a bit too much for me, we talk about 3600 km, and finding places to stay might be a problem in e.g. Belgium, where I cannot see any camino routes when I search for it. I am aware that it will be a very lonesome journey, especially as I have planned...
This was really interesting reading! I plan a long distance bike trip in 2021 (Frederikshavn, Denmark, to SdC, about 3600 km). I will probably need a new bike by then an have thought a lot about ebike or an ordinary one. I think you have made the decision a lot easier! Thank you!
I was a bit scared by reading a lot about this steep section and thought it would be a challenge. So I started in Le Puy and walked to Pamplona, during that walk I produced enough fitness to avoid being exhausted. But I prebooked a night at Orisson and really found that useful - the rest was a...
I first got aware of the Camino Frances in 2011, the year after last Año Santo, and my first foreign pilgrim's walk took pace two years later (Le Puy tol Pamplona, andt then Pamplona to SdC two years later) - my first walk at all was in Norway, and so were many of the others (I have done pilgrim...
For a long time I've been planning to bike to SdC to celebrate the Año Santo in 2021. Now it's only two years to wait, and I will probably be doing it on my own. However, knowing that I probably may want to meet people (i.e. fellow pilgrims) for social reasons, I would like to get in touch in...
Haha! Last year we had a long summer in the eastern part of Norway, from end of June till some time in August. But at that time I was walking the St. Olavsleden from Selånger. Sweden, to Stiklestad, Norway, and the wildfires in Jämtland really scared me! One morning the southern hills were swept...
I walked from Le Puy to Pamplona in June/July 2013 and had a fantastic time on my own - in France I was very much on my own, due to my very limited French, but my "social life" widened a lot after S. Jean due to a larger number of international pilgrims. I really concider to repeat it in a few...
I walked from Pamplona to Santiago in July 2015 and did not find it too crowded - maybe because July isn't the peak season? But I have to admit that the heat wave was tough on the Meseta! Next time I think of the Norte!
