    Rip off Restaurant

Being nosy. But whoever told you you wouldn’t have bad experiences? Things happen. And perhaps “bad” is not the correct adjective. Maybe I should have used “less than optimal”. Like taking a wrong turn. Walking 10 extra km because of it. Those things happen. To some of us. Or maybe I just like...

    Rip off Restaurant

For every “bad” experience on the Camino (which I always chalked up to my inexperience) at least two grand things would happen elsewhere. Just wait. That breakfast will become one of those things you never remember! Take a breath, blow out the candle, and Buen Camino!!

    Albergues from Porto

Hostel Bulwark https://hostelbulwark.com/pt-pt/ in Valenca, Portugal was very nice. Valenca was one of my favorite cities along the Portuguese Way.

    Joint Credencial?

Okay, let me try again. I can’t tell you if a joint credential is a thing or not; but my concern would be, if for any reason, you got separated from your partner. What if you have to acquire separate lodging? every individual had to have a credential to “check in” to the albergues and hostels I...

    Sleeping with valuables

I am so impressed that you never get up to go to the bathroom!!! But I’m also a tossed and turned, but after a few days…the waist bag is just part of the process.

    Sleeping with valuables

I just wear my waist pack all night. In addition to being on you when you go wee, you can keep phone, ear buds, tissues, everything you may need during the night. And you get used to sleeping with it.

Food on the Camino, what do you miss?

Vegetariana bocodilla with olive oil. I cannot eat bread in the US, but could eat all I wanted on Camino! And of course that first cafe con leche of the day!!

Early Departure Flight @ Madrid (Close Accommodation)

I pre-arranged a taxi once when my flight was early like that. The hotel I stayed at actually did it for me. I think the taxi picked me up at 4am…for about 10euro

    Sleeping with valuables

My waist bag was comfy enough, I always slept with it on. Kept those earplugs within east reach when necessary!! 😴

Where do you carry your valuables?

I too wear a bag around my waist (and I’ll definitely call it that from now on). Makes it so much easier to grab passports, phone, coins for a quick cafe con leche…never have to rummage through my pack that way. I just found that easier for me. I also took it with me everywhere - restrooms...

What is between Sarria and Santiago? And Muxia?

Muxia was the highlight of my first Camino. I actually took a bus there, just to see what all the hype was about...ended up staying a whole week, and wasn't ready to leave. It is a great place to refresh and re-enter after a Camino. This is just my opinion and experience, but I think about it daily.

Coastal route weather in October inquiry

I did the same walk from Porto in Sept/Oct 2019. At that time, the weather during my October weeks = rain, rain and more rain. That being said, it was still marvelous. Just take a good poncho, and quick-drying clothing. Buen Camino!

I just walked the Frances. Here's what I learned.

Loved your post. And even though I'm in that 50-70yr range...and I've done it twice already...you made me think about doing it one.more.time. Maybe I should approach it more like a mid-20year old!! Less planning, more experiencing. Thank you!

    Travel Health Insurance?

I got a very inexpensive plan just for my trip through Allianz - it was also the company that my airline suggested.
