We just stayed there last night and it was wonderful! It’s very clean and tranquil. Facing the monastery go to the right hand corner of the building and you will see a metal sliding gate with the albergue sign. Ring the bell and someone will let you in. There were 8 beds in each of the two open...
I’m planning to be leaving from San Sebastián in November returning to the US after my Camino. Does anyone know of a location there to get a Covid test with quick results to satisfy flight requirements? Thanks!!
We are starting in Estella this year....resuming from the albergue where my husband broke his hip a year and a half ago. When choosing our plan this time we mainly considered the question of his ability to walk...the recovery from surgery has not been a smooth one. Revisiting Estella was a...
What a lovely idea with the feathers. In the year before I started the Camino, I bought a light weight off white cotton scarf. I invited all of my loved ones to write on it with a prayer/ desire/wish for themselves. I wore the scarf( super helpful useful as sunblock, picnic seat, neck warmer...
I used a Patagonia r3. It was super light but plenty warm especially over layered capillene or merino. In fact, all of my Patagonia gear did so well, I'm still wearing it 1 1/2 years later and planning to take it back to the Camino in September.
I did a short section of the Camilo last spring interrupted by my husband's medical emergency. I had walked 600+ miles over the course of a year in preparation. I used expensive, well fitting hiking boots. Developed a lot of problems with my Achilles' tendon. I am returning in September to the...
We learned that the hard way and cringe at the places we've been and luckily didn't need it. Thanks for the info, I'll check that site. PS...university hospital (CUN) in Pamplona was outstanding! Public hospital in Estella, not so much so.
The hubs and I have done a lot of traveling and have never purchased medical insurance. In April last year on our third day on the Camino , my husband broke his hip in the shower in Estella. Boy were our eyes opened quickly! We'd flown on a frequent flier ticket so no support from a credit card...
I know this won't be an option for many, but a travel strategy I've developed is using my old iPod loaded with music I enjoy. Long flights, snoring, etc....my music always does the trick. Last year when my husband broke his hip in an Alberque in Estella, and spent 3 weeks in the hospital and...
We started our first camino with the intention to be in gratitude for the blessings of our lives, and to be very open to lessons which might be presented to us. We both agree that this year of a bit of hardship HAS taught us many lessons that apparently we needed. So blessed to be able to start...
Last year my husband and I started our much anticipated Camino. After a year of dreaming, planning, and walking, we started out from Pamplona. The first three days were absolutely magnificent. (He was 67 and very healthy, I was 64, newly retired and also healthy). The sights, people we met...
